Breast Cancer Awereness Beauty Products
October is breast cancer month. During this time, a lot of brands are releasing products to raise money and awareness for this disease. If you need to buy a beauty product for yourself or a friend, please consider choosing one that supports this cause. Here are just a few highlights:
Philosophy Shower For A Cure ($20.00) can be used as a shampoo, shower gel or bubble bath and helps to moisturize and soothe skin. 100% of philosophy’s net proceeds from the sale of shower for the cure will be donated to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($29.95) deep cleanses, exfoliates and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. Suki Sensitive Cleansing Bar ($10.95) gently cleans skin removing all traces of makeup and impurities while softening and hydrating it. Suki is donating 100% of proceeds from this two products throughout October and November to the Breast Cancer Action’s “Think Before You Pink” campaign.
During the month of October, tarte will donate 20% of the proceeds from the Think Pink natural collection to the Young Survival Coalition, a support network for women under 40 living with breast cancer. Throughout October, Origins will donate $35,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation from sales of Peace of Mind® On-the-spot relief ($10.00) sold in North America.
By purchasing PX Pink Ribbon Palette for Cheeks and Eyes ($49.00), featuring 4 eyeshadows and two blushes, you’ll help Prescriptives donate $20.000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Return to Origins Program and Other Beauty News
Return to Origins Recycling Program
Origins has launched its own Return to Origins recycling program. You can now take your clean and empty cosmetics containers to any Origins stores and counters (except Nordstrom, Canada and Puerto Rico). And it doesn’t matter what brand your cosmetics are! The returned pakaging will either be recycled or used for energy recovery.
In addition, to celebrate Earth Month and give you an incentive to get started, if you take your empty containers to the counters this month, you’ll get a free sample of a Origins skin care product!
Star Trek Fragrances
Genki Wear, known for its licensed science fiction jewelry and perfumes, has produced three Star Trek colognes and perfume (two for men and one for women) based on the original 1960s television show: Tiberius Cologne, Red Shirt Cologne and Pon Farr.
Tiberius Cologne is inspired by captain James Tiberius Kirk and features “notes of freshness and sensuality”. The perfume as top notes of sweet citron zest, black pepper and cedar and base notes of vanilla, white musk and sandalwood.
Red Shirt Cologne is homage to the sacrifices tireless and nameless crew of the USS enterprise and features the words “because tomorrow may never come” printed on the packaging. The fragrance has top notes of green mandarin, bergamot and lavender and base notes of leather and grey musk.
Pon Farr, which is named after a Vulcans mating ritual, is a fragrance designed to drive men wild. There aren’t anymore information on the scent as of yet.
Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation
Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation, inspired by their Dream Matte Mousse foundation, has a lightweight formula and a unique air-whipped liquid texture that provides a natural, airbrushed coverage. It smooths skin and eliminates pores and imperfection, providing an air-brushed, luminous and natural finish.
The foundation is available in 12 shades and retails at $9.79.

Every year we throw away lots of stuff that could instead be recycled. I try and recycle anything cos I think its’ important to do your bit to help the environment and if everyone did it, it would make a huge difference. I think it’s great that Origins came up with a recycling campaign, and although it’s not the first company to come up with an initiative like this (MAC and Bond no.9 have similar programs for instance), I hope more brands will follow soon.
As for the fragrances, I’m not a Star Trek fan, so I’ll pass on those. Instead, I’m always looking for a great foundation that doesn’t break the bank and this one from Maybelline seems worth checking out.
