Hello everyone,

today I wanna show you a look I did for a night out a while ago. I wanted the eyes to be dark and dramatic but also use some pink eyeshadow, so after some playing around with the shades, here’s what came out. As always when I emphasize the eyes, the rest of the face was kept kinda neutral. I don’t know how I feel about the outcome though. I think it’s pretty but could’ve been better, you know? I hope you like it anyway.

Products used:
– Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer
– Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
– Sleek I-Divine Original Eyeshadow Palette (soft pink)
– Makeup Masala mineral eyeshadow in Agni
– Sleek Bohemian eyeshadow palette (matte black)
– Pupa True Eyes eyeliner pencil in black
– Maybelline Volum Express Cat Eyes mascara
– YSL Teint Singulier Sheer Powdercreme Veil Foundation
– Max Factor Erace Concealer
– Pupa bronzer
– Milani Minerals Blush in Luminuous
– Senna Spot Lites Highlighting Pencil

Directions:
– Apply an eyeshadow primer (I used Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer) all over the lid to create a base for the shades to adhere to and last longer.
– Apply Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy (if you don’t have, you can skip this step) on the lid to make the colors really pop.
– Apply a soft pink shade (I used the one in the Sleek Original palette) all over the lid and bring it slightly up the crease.
– Apply a bright pink shade (I used Makeup Masala mineral eyeshadow in Agni) on the lid to darken it.
– Sweep a matte black shade (I used the one in the Sleek Bohemian palette) on the crease and the inner corner of the eyes and blend well.
– Apply a metallic silver eyeshadow (I forgot which one I used, sorry, but any silver metallic shade you have will do!) around the edges of the black shade and blend them out to soften them.
– Sweep a pale beige shade (I used the one in the Sleek Bohemian palette) on the browbone to highlight.
– Using a pencil brush, apply the black shade you used previously on the lower lashline and sweep the silver metallic shade on top of it.
– Line your lid and waterline with a black pencil liner (I used – Pupa True Eyes eyeliner pencil in black) and apply mascara.
– On your face, apply concealer (I used Max Factor Erace Concealer) to cover dark circles and any other imperfection you may have, and then your usual foundation (I used YSL Teint Singulier Sheer Powdercreme Veil Foundation in no.5). If you need it, contour (I applied a bronzer in one of the Pupa palettes I have on my nose to make it look slimmer).
– Apply a pink blush with very subtle peach undertones (I used Milani Mineral Blush in Luminuous) on your cheeks and highlight the cheekbones, middle of the nose and chin with a subtle white highlighter (I used Senna Spot Lites Highlighting Pencil).

Name: Pure Powder
Brand: Maybelline
Size: 16g
Price: about €6/8

From Maybelline’s website:
Pressed and hypoallergenic powder with an anti-shine formula, with Aloe, Vitamina E and Chamomile. Designed for impure skins, it is easy to apply and doesn’t clo pores, doesn’t dry out skin and gives a luminuous, matt and natural finish to skin.

What I liked:
– good color range for those with pale skin
– soft and smooth texture
– good coverage
– easy to apply
– matte finish
– didn’t give me break outs
– long-lasting
– fragrance-free
– the price

What I didn’t like:
– limited color range, no colors for darker skin tones
– it may offer too much coverage for some people
– controls shine only for a few hours
– like most powders, it may look cakey and accentuate dry patches if you’re not careful with application
– the packaging

Having pale skin, I always find it difficult to find a cheap powder that works for me so when I heard the Maybelline Pure Powder had a good color selection for fair-skinned ladies (unfortunately there are no shades available for those with dark skintones ), I had to go to the store and check it. Sadly, the translucent one was sold out and so was the lightest shade up so I ended up with Amber Beige, which still looked pale enough for me under those deceiving shop lights (memo to self: never shop when in a rush so you have time to check the color outdoors under natural lightening).

Actually, I think that if the powder had had sheer color payoff, it might still have worked well for me, but as it turns out it is medium to full coverage and, when applied on top of my foundation, it darkens it. But if you’re looking for a powder that gives great coverage, helping to cover imperfections without breaking the bank and you manage to find a good match for you, I think you may like this. Sure, it has a few cons, but I’m still very interesting in trying the translucent shade.

What I like about Pure Powder is the smooth, almost silky-soft texture that gives skin a natural matte finish without being dull. Application is easy but, like with all powders, it can accentuate dry patches and wrinkles if you have them, so make sure you moisturize your skin well beforehand. However, this wasn’t a problem for me and the powder also didn’t make me break out nor did it dry my skin.

It contains Talc and Calcium Carbonate, two ingredients used to absorb excess oil and keep shine under control but I find the powder does that only for several hours, definitely not the whole day, so you may still have to use blotting paper to remove excess oil and reapply the powder. On my non-oily areas though, the powder lasts long, helping my makeup stay put too.

It also gets a few more points for being fragrance-free, meaning no scent was added to make the powder smell a certain way. It has a subtle powdery odor, though, but that’s because every ingredient used in cosmetics has its own odor and with no fragrance added to mask them, you can still smell those.

Pure Powder comes in a circular compact that contains a generous amount of product that will last for months. The compact is very simple, cheap-looking and not sturdy at all. If you drop it, not only you’ll get a dent in your powder, but the powder pan will also unglue from the compact. In addition, it doesn’t come with a mirror.

Available at: Maybelline counters in Europe

Summary
Maybelline Pure Powder is an inexpensive mattifying powder that provides good coverage with a matte finish, is easy to apply and looks natural on. In addition, it has a very soft and smooth texture, lasts long and didn’t make me breakout. However, it keeps shine at bay only for a few hours, may accentuate dry patches if skin is not well moisturized and packaging is cheap. The color selection is good for pale skintones, but not for darker ones.

Rating: 3.5/5

Name: Volum’ Express Cat Eyes Mascara
Brand: Maybelline
Price:RM33.90

From Maybelline’s website:
– 5x wild volume, without the clumps
– 18 hour wide-eyed curls
– 75 degree curl

What I liked:
– the wand
– adds volume
– separates lashes
– curls lashes a bit
– long-lasting
– doesn’t smudge
– easy to remove

What I didn’t like:
– doesn’t add much length
– clumps
– can make lashes look crunchy if you apply too much
– not available worldwide

Maybelline Cat Eye mascara, one of the latest members of the Volum’ Express family, is an Asia exclusive. My dear friend Hanna knew how curious I was to try it after reading reviews online about how volumizing this mascara is, so she kindly sent me one tube in a swap. Thanks a lot hun!

The mascara comes in a eye-catching pink and black striped tube which I absolutely love. It’s very pretty and such a cool addition to my makeup stash. But the packaging is not the only funky thing about this brush. The wand is pretty unusual too.

Instead of a brush, the mascara comes with a comb. I was curious to see how well it performs and, once you get the hang of it, it works really well. The first couple of times I made the mistake of using it like I would use any other mascara wand, doing a wriggling motion, but that only gave me kinda “meh” results.

Then, I realised I should have used it as a comb! Doh! That’s what it is after all, right? So, I just combed my lashes from the roots to the tops, without wriggling the wand and I was pleased with the results. My lashes were thicker, defined and somewhat curled too.

While the mascara curled my lashes a bit, and holds it for most of the day which I was very pleased about, I’d suggest you use an eyelash curler for better results. It also added a bit of length to my lashes, but not as much as I was hoping for. However, this isn’t a lengthening mascara so I wasn’t too disappointed about that.

Instead, I like it how it added quite a bit of volume to my lashes with only two coats. One works just as well, but I like a bit more drama to my lashes eheh. Just be careful not too apply too much though, or your lashes will look very crunchy!

Also, this stuff clumps a bit, but I find the wand is really good at de-clumping as well as separating lashes for a fanned out look. That’s why I’m thinking of keeping the wand once the mascara has run out and keep it as lash comb, like Paris suggested.

In addition, the wand coats every single lash and even makes it easy to apply mascara on the lower lashes. I rarely apply mascara there cos I’m so clumsy I always end up making a huge mess, but with this I don’t have any problems at all. It’s completely fool-proof!

And because the mascara is waterproof, it lasts all day, without smudging at all (minor flakes can occur though) but still it’s pretty easy to remove. Any good makeup remover will do the trick quickly and effectively.

Summary
Overall, I’m loving Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara. If you’re looking for a mascara that provides volume, separation and some curl for a dramatic look, you’ll love this too. It lasts all day without smudging, but if doesn’t add much length and clumps a bit.

Rating: 4/5

thank you so much for all your blog birthday well wishes yesterday, it’s very appreciated! And to those that have entered, and will enter, the giveaway, good luck! I wish I could give something to each and everyone of you, you are all amazing!

Today, I’m sharing with you a kind of neutral look I did a few days ago. The look is not really neutral per se, but it is for someone that wears brights like me. It’s very wearable and to accomplish it, I’ve used red shades. Yes, that’s right, not all reds are hard to pull off. Rusty reds or reds with brown undertones can be worn by everyone as they are safe for daytime too. And if you think it’s too much, you can always change the lip color to something nude or softer. Here are the pix, let me know what you think:

Hello everyone,

despite pink being my favourite color ever, I don’t use it on my eyes a lot because I have a hard time finding pink shades that actually show up on me. And when they do, they are usually pretty soft and as you know, I like my eye makeup to be intense! Still, sometimes I’m in the mood for something soft and romantic and when I feel like that, I take out my pink eyeshadows and play with them. Here’s what came out, enjoy!

La Prairie Whisper Summer 2010

Have you ever tried La Prairie makeup? I haven’t and even though the colorful yet sheer shades of this collection and the beautiful silver packaging really appeal to me, I’m afraid with such a high price tag the collection is out of my reach. But a girl can always dream right?

I’m loving the Les Lignes et Lumieres Cellular Treatment Eye Colour Ensemble ($70.00), which features 4 soft pastel shades in ivory, lilac, gold and grass green plus a black powder liner. It looks more appropriate for spring than summer to me but still, it’s beautiful. Also available is a Cellular Treatment Illuminating Face Powder ($60.00) in Warm Glow, a warm sunny beige that comes in a nice compact with a brush and mirror.

Now, the lip products are way overpriced! I mean, would you ever pay $40 for a gloss and $55 for a lippie?! I wouldn’t (although I wouldn’t mind if I received it as a present lol) but this doesn’t stop me drooling over the beautiful shades. The Cellular Luxe Lip Colour ($55.00) is available in Quiet Rose (warm rose), Tender Pink (pastel shimmering pink), Sunset Coral (medium bright true coral), Tawny Soft (neutral rosy brown) and Pink Coral (modernized versio).

The Cellular Lip Colour Effects ($40.00) instead is available in six shades: Quiet Fig (cranberry with a hint of brown), Cocoa (shimmering nude), Breezy Coral (pink tinted color), Guava Spice (coppery peach), Island Orchid (light raspberry lilac) and Pink Shell (sheer blush pink). And don’t you just love the pretty and luxurious packaging?

Shiseido Ocean Summer 2010 Collection

I’m on the fence regarding Shiseido Ocean Summer Collection. Judging from the promo picture, some of the products look really dull and boring, while others are more interesting and brighter. I think I’ll have to wait to see this one in person to make my mind up, but so far my favourite thing from the collection is the Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Ocean Sunset (€25,00), a bright shimmering gold perfect for the upcoming summer season.

Another interesting shade is the Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil (€20,00) in Black Sand , a greenish black with gold pearl. The description sounds wonderful but I hope it won’t turn black with barely any green once applied. Also available is the Luminizing Satin Face Color (€36,00) in Medusa, a pink highlighting shade with some silver sparkle, Starfish, a reddish gold with golden pearls and Shell a brownish bronzer.

For the lips, we have a new shade of Perfect Rouge lipstick: Red Triton, a pigmented golden red shade. Finally, there’s the Luminizing Lip Gloss ($23,00) in Rainbow, which has multi-colored pearls to make you pout shine and sparkle.

What do you think of the collection?

Maybelline Jade Summer 2010

Maybelline Jade Summer Collection has caught my eye for the beautiful shades that are being released at an affordable price. Although I rarely buy quads that have similar shades or shades in the same color family, I find the new Quattro Eyestudio Glam palette (€ 11,00) to be very pretty. It’s perfect for pink and purples lovers like me and a nice piece for beginners to have.

I’m also loving the nail polishes. This summer, we’re having four new shades of Express Finish (€8,00) in Pearly Pink, Fuchsia, Prune Acidulee and Onyx Black and some new small-sized nail polishes called Mini Colorama Nail Polish (€4,00) in 15 different shades: Tutti Frutti, Cotton Candy, Candy Apple, Soft Mint, Marshmallow, Dark Chocolate, Candy Bar, Fruit Roll Up, Peach Pie, Candy Frost, Berry Jam, Merry Candy, Sweet Cherry, Rose Coral and In love Beige.

While I think all the nail polishes colors are stunning, I’m not too keen on the formula. I’ve bought some Maybelline nail polishes in the past and they were hard to work with, but I hope these will be different. Lastly, there are 4 new shades of Volume Express Khol Liner (€6,00) in Black Glam, Silver Black, Brown Gleam, Glam Plum. You know I’m a sucker for colored liners so I can’t wait to see these in person. I hope they won’t disappoint.

Hello everyone,

today I want to show you a simple and quick look I did last week with blue eyeshadow. The look turned out pretty icy and it’s probably more suited in winter than spring, but I still liked it a lot. And please excuse my expression in the photo. I’ve had a hectic couple of weeks and didn’t get much sleep, something I plan to catch up on this weekend. I hope your plans are more exciting than mine. Have you got anything nice planned?

– Apply an pale, icy blue shade (I used the one in the Bottega Verde My Box Palette) all over the lid.
– Next, apply a purplish blue shade (I used Fyrinnae’s Arcane Eyeshadow in Faerie Glamour) on the outer corner of the eyes and crease area.
– Darken the outer V with a matte, bright blue shade (I used the one in the Sleek Chaos palette). Apply the same shade on the lower lashline too.
– Highlight the browbone and the inner corners of the eyes with a white shade (I used the one in the Sleek Curious palette).
– Apply a very soft and pale green shade (I used the one in Bottega Verde My Box Palette) on the inner crease of the eye and blend well (you can barely see it photos, but it’s there and it’s very pretty in real life).
– Line your waterline with a white eyeliner (I used Wet n Wild Kajal & Eyeliner in white) and apply mascara.
– On your face, apply concealer (I used Max Factor Erace Concealer) to cover dark circles and any other imperfection you may have, and then your usual foundation (I used YSL Teint Singulier Sheer Powdercreme Veil Foundation in no.5).
– Apply a pink blush on your cheeks (I used Pupa Lumynis Baked Blush #1 from Plastic Shine Spring 2009) and highlight the cheekbones, middle of the nose and chin with a subtle white highlighter (I used Senna Spot Lites Highlighting Pencil).
– Apply a pink lipgloss (I used Senna Pearl Glow Lip Lacquer in Sunkiss) and you’re done.
