As 2013 is quickly drawing to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for being part of Beautiful With Brains this past year. I hope you’ll stick around for next year too.

Thank you for visiting my little blog, for all your comments, your emails, for listening to my rants about disappointing beauty products and sharing the fun of all things beauty with me. I can’t thank you enough for all your support. Without you all, Beautiful With Brains wouldn’t be the same.

I also want to wish you a wonderful 2014! May it be filled with happiness and health!

Happy New Year, everyone!

2013 is almost over, so why don’t we take a few minutes to look back at the topics we’ve discussed this year? Here we go:

bikini body 02

Why the whole concept of bikini body is ridiculous: you shouldn’t be afraid to don a bikini, no matter what you look like. Everyone is beautiful and every body should be celebrated, not hated.

What are the best sunscreens for oily skin?: people with oily skin can really struggle to find a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a lightweight texture that doesn’t leave a greasy residue behind. Here are 4 options to check out.

Skincare ingredients I avoid: some cosmetic ingredients can do more harm than good. In this post, I share the ones I avoid (and no, this isn’t your usual “nasty chemicals list; parabens, silicones and mineral oil, to name a few, aren’t in it).

My 6 favourite natural ingredients: I know it can sometimes seem like I hate natural ingredients, but I don’t. It’s silly statements like natural=good and chemical=bad that I can’t stand. Not all natural ingredients are good, while others work amazingly well. These six have made it into my daily skincare routine and I couldn’t live without them.

How to reapply sunscreen while wearing makeup: we all know that we should reapply sunscreen frequently, but that’s not exactly easy when you’re wearing a full face of makeup. This post reveals how I deal with that.

must have eye brushes

5 Eye Brushes Every Woman Should Own: to achieve beautiful and flawless eye makeup looks, you need the right brushes. Here are five that are every woman should have in her stash.

7 Ways To Treat Hyperpigmentation: hyperpigmentation is a very common problem that can affect anyone. Luckily, there are lots of ways to treat it.

9 ingredients to soothe irritated and sensitive skin: has something irritated your skin? Or do you have sensitive skin that’s prone to irritations? Check out this post to discover what ingredients have soothing properties and how they can help your skin.

Spotlight on niacinamide: niacimanide is one my favourite skincare ingredients due to its many beneficial properties. It can reduce water loss, hydrate skin, treat acne and rosacea, and even reduce discolourations!

Do you really need SPF 100?: is SPF 100 a necessity, or just a gimmick that can lull you into a false sense of security? Read the post to find out.

coconut oil as sunscreen

Can I use coconut oil as sunscreen?: a lot of people, especially those who are into natural treatments and products, like to use coconut oil as sunscreen. But doing so can be very dangerous…

Do anti-aging haircare products work?: our society is obsessed with aging, and brands are taking advantage of that to promote anything as anti-aging. Including haircare products. But can they really prevent or reverse the aging process of hair, which is dead?

9 eyeshadow blending tips: lots of tips and tricks to blend your eyeshadows effortlessly.

How do you figure out the concentration of an ingredient in a cosmetic product?: even ingredients that have been proved to treat wrinkles, acne or other skin conditions won’t work if used in too small concentrations. This post will help you determine just how much on an ingredient is in a beauty product.

sunscreen safe babies

Can you apply sunscreen on a baby?: at what age should you start wearing sunscreen? And which type should you use? Read this post to find out.

Why you shouldn’t use milk of magnesia as a primer (but it’s ok as a deodorant): Milk Of Magnesia is often recommended as a primer to people with oily skin, but in the long run, it can do more harm than good.

Help! Why does my face turn white in photos?: isn’t that just annoying? This post will explain why that happens and what you can do to prevent it.

How to deal with rosacea: rosacea is a harmless skin condition that can, however, deeply affect your self-esteem. Although a cure hasn’t been found yet, there are lots of things you can do to keep this condition under control.

Beautiful With Brains Gets A New Looks

old layout

Thanks to Faye Kent for creating a gorgeous new layout for Beautiful With Brains (and for her patience in dealing with me too).

I hope you like the new look. The old one was ok, but I was getting tired of it. I wanted something fresh and sleek, but with a pop of colour. I’m very pleased with it and I hope you are too.

I’m still working out the kinks, so please bear with me for the next few days.

In other news, I created a Google Plus page for the blog. It’s still very new, so there’s not much on there yet, but I’ll remedy that soon. In the meantime, if you have an account, I’d appreciate it you followed me.

Plus, you can now also follow me on Bloglovin’. :)

So, what do you think of the new layout?
