5 New Gorgeous Eyeshadow Palettes For Spring 2015

eyshadow palettes spring 2015

What’s your biggest makeup weakness? I’m a sucker for eyeshadow palettes. I just can’t resist them.

I love playing with eyeshadows, and trying new colour combinations and looks all the time. Palettes make this easier. They feature several colour-coordinated shades that take the guesswork out of creating the perfect eye look.

This spring, we’re going to be spoilt for choices. So many brands have come up with new eyeshadow palettes, one more gorgeous than the other. Which to choose?

Here are my favourites:

HOURGLASS MODERNIST EYESHADOW PALETTE ($58.00)
An artist-inspired eye shadow palette that features five complimentary, pigmented shades. A few reviews have mentioned some of the shades are powdery and not that easy to work with, but I can’t help wanting one anyway. Available in 7 variants, my favourite is Color Field, which features olive greens, browns, and champagne shades. Available at Sephora.

YSL COUTURE VARIATION TEN-COLOR EXPERT EYE PALETTE ($95.00)
Inspired by fabric swatches, the eyeshadows cover all finishes from matte to metallic, from satin to iridescent. It’s available in two variants: Tuxedo (dark and edgy hues) and Nu (soft and natural shades). Surprisingly, it’s the latter that has caught my eye. What’s happening to me? Am I turning into a natural makeup girl as I get older? Should I get worried? Available at Nordstrom.

CALVIN KLEIN CK ONE COLOR NEUTRALS REDEFINED PALETTE ($38.00)
This gorgeous palette features ten eyeshadows in both soft and natural and edgy and dark hues to create day to night looks. Very versatile, they can be used dry for a soft wash of colour, or wet for a more intense look. Available at Ulta.

TORY BURCH CATCH EYESHADOW PALETTE ($60.00)
A beautiful, feminine palette with muted floral-inspired shades. It features aubergine, rust brown, nude pink, peachy pink, lavender, and blue shades to create soft colourful looks perfect for spring. Available at Nordstrom.

GIVENCHY PRISME QUATUOR ($58.00)
The keen colour sense and expertise of Nicolas Degennes went into creating these unique palettes featuring bold, elegant and modern combinations where nudes mix with intense tones, where matte density plays off a sparkling veil. It’s available in nine variants. My favourite? Tentation. It features green, eggplant, pink, and champagne shades. Available at Sephora.

5 New Skincare Products For Spring 2015

skincare products spring 2015

Makeup shopping can be a lot of fun, but when it comes to skincare, trying to decide which moisturizer or serum is best for our skin can be quite frustrating! New products are released every day, but are they worth a try? I skimmed through the latest releases and found five that certainly are:

PURITY OF ELEMENTS RADIANCE FACE SERUM ($60.00)
This serum features a blend of rose hips, honey, and sweet almond seed extract that moisturizes skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also infused with pretty much any antioxidant you can think of, such as vitamin E and green tea, and even a small amount of vitamin A, to help keep wrinkles at bay. Available at Nordstrom.

DERMA DOCTOR KP DUTY DERMATOLOGIST FORMULATED AHA MOISTURIZING THERAPY FOR DRY SKIN ($90.00)
Suffering from dry skin? This moisturizer features a blend of glycolic acid, green tea extract and urea to help exfoliate, calm and hydrate it. It makes skin soft and smooth, improving the appearance of dry patches. And can be used all over your body, hands and feet included. Available at Derma Doctor.

PAULA’S CHOICE RESIST 25% VITAMIN C SPOT TREATMENT ($55.00)
This powerful spot treatment enriched with 25% stabilized vitamin C (ascorbic acid) promises to get rid of stubborn brown spots and post acne marks anywhere on your face, neck, and body. And like that weren’t enough, it can improve the appearance of deep wrinkles as well. Its texture? Silky smooth. Available at Paula’s Choice.

INDEED LABS RETINOL REFACE ($24.99)
Retinol is one of the most effective ingredients in the fight against premature aging. It can really reduce wrinkles, but it works very slowly. In the meantime, the serum is also infused with dimethicone, a silicone that can temporarily fill in fine lines and wrinkles, making them look smaller. And all without suffocating skin. The formula is pretty basic, so I would recommend it only to young women looking for their first, and affordable, retinol serum. Available at Ulta.

DERMA DOCTOR PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY AGE SPOT ERASER & SKIN BRIGHTENER ($60.00)
Hydroquinone is the most used skin-lightening agent in skincare, and there’s a reason for that. It works really well. But not everyone likes it. If you want to try an alternative treatment, why not give this lotion a go? It is infused with Azelaic Acid, licorice and mulberry extracts, all of which have been proven to treat hyperpigmentation. They’re not as potent skin-lighteners as hydroquinone, though, so it may take longer to see an improvement. Available at Derma Doctor.

6 New Contouring Products For Spring 2015

contouring products spring 2015

Contouring must be the most feared word in the makeup world. Once a well-kept makeup artists’ secret, it was made popular by the Kardashian sisters, who skilfully use it to slenderize, sculpt, and highlight their faces.

This technique can do wonders for your face, but it is not the easiest to learn. I still struggle a bit with it, and reserve it only for special occasions. But contouring is going to be a big trend this year.

Beauty companies want us to make contouring and highlighting part of our everyday makeup routine, and to help us get the hang of it have created lots of kits, palettes and chubby sticks in buildable, easy-to-blend formulas. Here are my favourite picks:

LAURA MERCIER FLAWLESS CONTOURING PALETTE ($50.00)
A very talented makeup artist, Laura Mercier knows the secret to everyday contouring is to be discrete. That’s why her Flawless Contouring Palette features five dark sculpting and light highlighting shades in delicate, buildable, and easy-to-blend creamy formulas that allow a flawless and foolproof application. Every single time.

KAT VON D SHADE + LIGHT CONTOUR PALETTE ($46.00)
An expert sketch artist, Kat Von D uses shadow and light to create depth and dimension in her captivating portraits. To help you effortlessly sculpt, chisel, shape, and slenderize your features for enhanced definition, she has created the Shade + Light Contour Palette. It features three matte bronzers and three matte highlighters that capture the true hues of shadow and light. This allows you to create realistic shadows to recede facial features and impart a soft luminosity to amplify dimension.

SMASHBOX STEP-BY-STEP CONTOUR STICK TRIO ($45.00)
Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Stick Trio provides a very easy way to contour your face. All you need to do is swipe the three chubby cream pencils where you want to shade, sculpt, and highlight your face, and then blend, blend, blend! The middle shade, bronzer, provides a smooth transition that eliminates the look of harsh lines for a flawless look.

BECCA LOWLIGHT/HIGHLIGHT PERFECTING PALETTE ($42.00)
Becca Lowlight/Highlight Perfecting Palette features a cream highlighter based off Becca’s popular Shimmering Skin Perfector to make your skin glow and a Lowlight Sculping Perfector to add depth and definition. It is said to work well on all skin types.

SEPHORA CONTOURING 101 FACE PALETTE ($28.00)
Sephora wins the award for cuteness. The Contouring 101 Face Palette features five contouring and highlighting shades that you can use separately or mix together to add definition and luminosity to your face. It also comes with a step-by-step tutorial to help newbies get the best results.

CLINIQUE CHUBBY STICK SCULPTING HIGHLIGHT AND SCULPTING CONTOUR ($21.00)
Clinique’s offering could only come in a stick form. The Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight features light-reflecting optics to brings your best features forward, while the Chubby Stick Sculpting Countour creates the illusion of depth. Both sticks are creamy and longlasting, but must be purchased separately.

Wanted! YSL Volupte Tint In Oil

ysl volupte tint in oil

Tint in Oil must be the most unappealing name ever given to a cosmetic. To me, it conjures images of a greasy, oily pout. Yuck! Definitely not something you’d want to kiss!

Luckily, YSL Volupte Tint in Oil isn’t greasy at all. The formula is said to be lightweight and non-sticky, providing lots of shine and a hint of colour that enhances the natural beauty of your lips.

It is also infused with a blend of four essential oils – apricot kernel oil, coriander fruit oil, jojoba seed oil, and possiflora edulis seed oil – for deep hydration, ensuring that your lips stay in perfect condition all year long, even in the cold winter months.

There are eight shades to choose from:

Drive Me Copper (01)
Oh My Gold (02)
Undress Me (03)
Rose You (04)
Cherry My Cherie (05)
Peach Me Love (06)
Crush Me Orange (07)
Pink About Me (08)

I have my eye on that bright pink. The colour is very pretty, and it looks like it may be one of the most pigmented shades in this range.

YSL Volupte Tint In Oil retails at $32.00. Ouch! If that hasn’t put you off, you can purchase it at Sephora.

Real Techniques Bold Metals

The Pixiwoo sisters have done it again. They have used their expertise to create a new range of brushes with fibre bristles and geometric handles that help brushes stay in place as you do your makeup. Use the cross-hatching technique to blend the product into the skin for full coverage. The 2 angled sides can be used for full coverage under eye, and for blending seamlessly around the nose. The pointed tip is an added bonus for spot coverage. Since the brush has 3 sides you can use 3 colors, and still blend flawlessly.
