Name: Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Spot Concealer
From Maybelline’s website:
Revolutionary concealer and vitamin C treatment covers instantly, while fighting dark spots over time. Concentrated Vitamin C formula visibly decreases dark spots in just 4 weeks*. Targets signs of aging, dark spots, acne scars and sunspots.
What I liked:
- moist and hydrating texture is easy to blend
- provides sheer to medium coverage, hiding dark spots and small imperfections
- layers nicely without looking cakey
- looks natural on
- the price
What I didn’t like:
- the amount of Vitamin C may be too small to effectively treat dark spots
- poor staying power
- packaging is not very practical and hygienic
How would you like a concealer that doesn’t just cover dark spots, but also treats them overtime? Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Spot Concealer claims to do just that. How? Thanks to Vitamin C, in the form of Ascorbyl Glucoside. A stable form of Vitamin C, Ascorbyl Glucoside can lighten skin discolourations, although most of the research conducted on it combined it with niacinamide, which is not present in this concealer.
It is also doubtful whether the small amount of Ascorbyl Glucoside in this formula will be enough, on its own, to fade dark spots effectively. That’s why, if you’re interested in trying it, you should use it in conjunction with other skin-lightening treatments. However, used alone, the concealer instantly erases the appearance of dark spots. Of course as soon as you remove it, they’ll still be there.
The concealer has a thin consistency that only provides light to medium coverage. It is enough to cover my dark circles, make my fine lines look smaller and brighten my eye area (as I don’t have any dark spots, I use it as an under eye concealer), but if you need it to do more than that, you’ll have to layer it. Luckily, it builds up nicely, without making your skin look cakey. On the contrary, the result looks natural and flawless.
The moist and hydrating, but non-greasy texture is easy to blend and doesn’t crease. However, that’s also probably the reason why this concealer has such poor staying power. Although my under eye area is dry, it only lasts four hours on me. If I set it with powder, it lasts only a bit longer. That’s why I use this concealer only when I need to go out for a short few hours. Otherwise, I’d have to retouch it often, and I can’t be bothered to do that.
The concealer is packaged in a sleek, but unsanitary, tube. Just twist the product up, and the concealer will come out of the round sponge tip. The sponge tip glides really smoothly onto the skin, depositing the concealer where needed, but can’t be used for blending. For that, you’d need a sponge or a brush. Oh, and be careful when you twist it up. If too much product flows out, you’ll have to remove it with a wipe. That’d be such a waste.
The sponge tip gets dirty very quickly and isn’t easy to clean. Maybelline says it is infused with an anti-microbial system so you can’t wet it without compromising its efficacy. This may help prevent it becoming a breeding ground for bacteria but, just to be on the safe side, clean it well whenever you use it on blemishes to avoid spreading the infection around. And, of course, don’t share it with anyone else!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Spot Concealer has a lightweight texture that provides sheer to medium coverage that hides hyperpigmentation and dark circles and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. It also builds up nicely without looking cakey, if you need extra coverage. However, it can’t treat dark spots on its own, its staying power is poor and the packaging unsanitary.
