Name: Noir Patchouli
Brand: Histoires De Parfums
What I liked:
- dark and earthy patchouli scent with an inherent sweetness
- good sillage and staying power
- beautiful and sleek bottle
What I didn’t like:
- if rich and dark scents aren’t your thing, you won’t like this
Histoires De Parfums Patchouli Noir is, you guessed it, all about patchouli. Rich, dark, rugged patchouli. But with an inherent sweetness that gives it an interest twist. This sweetness is very subtle and only slightly reduces the harshness of the patchouli. Yet, it’s enough to surprise patchouli haters. That doesn’t mean that they will all like it, but this is definitely a scent that you can’t dismiss without giving it a sniff.
Patchouli Noir is rich, earthy and raspy from the very opening. Spicy cardamom and coriander intertwine with patchouli to create a green and woody mix with a balsamic touch. It transported me in a rural countryside area where hot muscly men chop their own firewood, or work the earth, while sweat is trickling down their faces. As time passes, the fragrance becomes sweeter. But in this case, sweeter means drier and more rounded.
The patchouli still remains dark and rich, but some of its edges are smothered down by a very subtle floral bouquet (so subtle your nose will hardly be able to pick it up) and slightly brightened by a dash of juniper berry. Another tender touch is added, in the drydown, by the vanilla. But the scent never gets the chance to lose its rugged and raunchy vibe. A creamy leather note makes sure of that. Its wilderness is further enhanced by velvet and musk.
Yet, the fragrance is more wearable than it sounds. Sure, it’s not for the faints of heart. It has a more masculine vibe (this stuff smells gorgeous on men!), but if you’re feeling adventurous, or want a sexy scent to wear on a date with a special someone, you may appreciate it. Sillage is great. It’s not subtle so you can’t wear it at the office, but it doesn’t even enter a room before you do. After six hours, it starts losing its intensity, until it wears very close to the skin. But you’ll still catch a whiff of it the next morning.
Histoires De Parfums Noir Patchouli is a dark, rich and rugged patchouli scent with an inherent sweetness that becomes drier and more rounded as time goes on. The unisex scent has both great sillage and staying power.
