Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.81

Hello everyone,

and welcome to another week of random ramblings. Grab a cup of coffee, sit down and enjoy!

Susan Herbert

If you’re a cat lady, you’ll love the works of “cat artist” Susan Herbert. As you probably guessed, cats are the protagonists of her paintings. What’s unusual, though, is that she portrays them as humans. Some people find this disturbing, but I think her works are charming and original. I especially love her renditions of artistic masterpieces. Above you can see the feline version of the iconic painting of the empress Sissi by Winterhalter. Isn’t it adorable? To see more of her works, check out my history blog.

What I’m Reading Now

mr darcys guide to courtship
Mr Darcy’s Guide To Courtship: Secrets of Seduction from Jane Austen’s Most Eligible Bachelor. Did you know that before marrying Elizabeth Bennet, Mr Darcy wrote a bestselling guide about courtship in the Regency Era? The (too) short guide, which is written in a satirical and witty style, covers topics such as how to make oneself agreeable, how to identify an appropriate partner, how to propose and how to recognize and escape from rakes without honourable intentions. Miss Caroline Bingley and Miss Maria Bertram have also penned some advice about beauty and rejecting proposals. The guide is also beautifully and extensively illustrated. However, if you have idealized Mr Darcy, you may be left disappointed by his advice. Far from being Mr Perfect, Mr Darcy is simply a man of his time, imbued with the prejudices of his era. All in all, this is a fun and short read that I recommend to all Jane Austen fans.

Sunday Survey, Vol.160

1. If you could take a year off, what would you do?
Travel all over the world.

2. How often do you get facials?
Very rarely. I’m always scared something will go wrong, and I’ll develop some awful allergic reaction or something.

3. Favourite summer pasttime?
Reading in the backyard. Oh, and outdoor barbecues with friends, although as we get older it’s more and more difficult to organize them. Everyone is always so busy.

4. Ruby or sapphire?
Sapphire.

5. How do you feel about buying perfumes online?
Buying a fragrance you’ve never smelled before online is very risky. Even if you like the notes, you’ll never know how the fragrance will react to your body chemistry until you try it. But if you’re fave fragrance has run out, then you’ll often find a better deal online. Oh, and I love to buy perfume samples online. You get to try so many new scents at a very cheap price!

    1. If you could take a year off, what would you do? I actually did take a year off and I traveled, it was really awesome. I wish I would have the money to do it again. :)
    2. How often do you get facials? There was a time when I used to have facials about 4 times a year, but not anymore.
    3. Favourite summer pasttime? Barbeque with friends but as you said, people are so busy or tired these days and they don’t seem to have the time or mood to get together like in the past days. I feel the day has only 10 hours and there’s not enough time to do everything.
    4. Ruby or sapphire? Sapphire cause I don’t like red. :)
    5. How do you feel about buying perfumes online? I never bought perfume online but if I did it would be only the perfumes that I’ve already had in my collection or some new scent that I tried at the beauty shop first.

Tavia, that’s wonderful that you took a year off to travel the world. Where did you go?

And I feel the same. The days are way too short. I need one that lasts at least 48 hours to do everything I need to lol.

Traveling is my main hobby but unfortunately requires a lot of money. Since I started my blog I travel a lot, before I couldn’t do it so much because I had a normal job and only 2 weeks vacation per year. I still want to go to the US but I can’t get the visa and I would love to visit Japan. :) I lived for a while in 2009 in Siberia, I visited some parts of Africa and most of Europe.

That’s one of the best things about blogging, isn’t it? You can do it anywhere and make your own schedule too. You still need money and visas though, and I hope you’ll get yours soon.

    1. If you could take a year off, what would you do?
How co-incident – I would plan a RTW (Round the World) trip too if money permits! :)

    2. How often do you get facials?
I’ve never gotten an official facial before (other than a product trial mini facial with Lancome where all they do is to slap on their products on my face)! Like you, I’m terrified of being allergic to their products!

    3. Favourite summer pasttime?
It’s summer all year round here in Malaysia, and what I usually do is to hide indoors, away from the sun! Lol! :D

    4. Ruby or sapphire?
Sapphire! I love that shade of blue! :)

    5. How do you feel about buying perfumes online?
I’m abit wary of purchasing perfumes online as i’m scared that they’re fake or “watered down” :P

Happy Weekend Gio! I hope you’ve had a great one! :)

Jenn, I hadn’t thought about that re perfumes. I guess it’d be safer to buy from a reputable seller with a good refund policy and stick to scents you know well so you can smell if something is off.

I had, thank you! I hope your weekend was wonderful too! :)
