Name: Pure & Natural Action Deodorant
From the packaging:
Lets skin breathe – it doesn’t clog pores. 24hr protection. Doesn’t leave any residue behind.
What I liked:
- keeps me smelling fresh for the whole day
- doesn’t leave any residue behind
- pleasant and fresh, although boring, scent
- pretty and practical packaging
What I didn’t like:
- the high amount of alcohol can irritate skin, especially after shaving
Finding a good aluminium-free deodorant isn’t easy: either they don’t work or contain other irritating ingredients such as alcohol, that I would rather avoid. But as I needed a new deodorant, and I hadn’t discovered Deodomom yet, I gave in and purchased, despite its high alcohol content, a bottle of Nivea Pure & Natural Action Deodorant.
Don’t let the name of this line deceive you. There is nothing pure and natural about it. That doesn’t bother me as I’m not into organic products anyway, but use whatever works regardless of the origin of the ingredients. But if you want something natural, this is a range you may want to skip.
But let’s go back to alcohol. Alcohol is used as a solvent, but it can be drying and irritating to the skin when used in high concentrations. Still, because the deodorant is used only on a very small area, I figured any potential side effects may not be as bad as stinking. And were there side effects? Well, the deodorant stung a bit when I applied it just after shaving. On other days, I didn’t have any problems with it at all.
On the contrary, just a spray kept me smelling fresh for the entire day. The deodorant contains Butyloctanoic Acid, an antimicrobial agent that helps fight body odour. Its effectiveness is further enhanced by Ethylhexylglycerin, which has mild antimicrobial properties too. Keep in mind, though, that I’m not a very sweaty person. If you are, you may experience difference results.
Although this deodorant kept me from stinking, I wasn’t very fond of its floral scent. It’s the kind of fresh and pleasant scent you expect a deodorant to have which, to me, makes it very boring. Instead, I really liked the packaging. The sleek white tube is ergonomically shaped, which makes it very easy to use, and dispenses just the right amount of product you need so that none gets wasted. Overall, it’s an ok deodorant, but I would recommend it only to those who, unlike me, don’t have a problem with alcohol.
