Name: My Skin Soft Cleansing Gel
From Essence’s website:
Deep-cleansing yet super gentle to your skin: the my skin soft cleansing gel thoroughly frees your skin of dirt and make-up. Lime and cucumber extracts don’t just provide your skin with intensive moisture, they also put you in a great mood thanks to their delicious and fresh scent. suitable for all skin types.
What I liked:
– removes excess oil, dirt and minimal makeup
– gentle, doesn’t irritate skin
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– doesn’t remove longlasting and waterproof makeup well
– packaging dispenses too much product
You’d think that once you’ve found a HG product, you can stop the search. But when it comes to cosmetics, I just can’t be faithful. That’s why, even though I’m in love with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, I still try other cleansers whenever they catch my eye. And Essence My Skin Soft Cleansing Gel definitely has a very eye-catching packaging (and an even more appealing price tag).
Although pretty, the tube is not very user-friendly. The opening is too big and, as a result, I always pour out more product than necessary, which is really annoying. I hate wasting product like that. The gel itself is green in colour and has a refreshing, not-too-strong, lime and cucumber scent that reminds me of dish soap.
Thankfully, this cleanser isn’t as harsh as a dish soap though. The blend of surfactants (ingredients that help water mix with oil and dirt so that they can be rinsed off) is actually quite gentle. Coco-glucoside, Cocamidropropyl Betaine and Polysorbate 20, which are all derived from coconut, are all considered amongst the most delicate surfactants used in skincare.
On the one hand, this means that they won’t irritate the skin, but on the other, they won’t be very effective at removing waterproof and longlasting makeup products. That’s why I prefer to use this cleanser in the morning. Then it performs its best, gently but effectively removing excess oil and dirt, leaving my skin clean and refreshed. It doesn’t leave it soft too, but it doesn’t dry it out either. Its foaming abilities are just so-so as well. If you like a cleanser that foams a lot, you may want to skip this.
