Name: Buxom Lash Mascara
Brand: Bare Escentuals
Price: $19.00
From Bare Escentuals’ website:
Bigger is better. Buxom Lash Mascara intensely volumizes for bigger, fuller lashes. The vitamin-enriched formula deepens, darkens and thickens from root to tip. Our curvy, talented, hourglass-shaped brush holds the ideal amount of mascara to ensure every lash is coated evenly with our silky, clump-free formula.
What I liked:
- provides long, separated, natural-looking lashes
- doesn’t smudge, flake nor fade throughout the day
- doesn’t clump
What I didn’t like:
- doesn’t provide any volume at all
- the wand is quite big which makes it hard to reach smaller lashes without getting mascara on the skin
When I first tried Buxom Lash Mascara, which was given me by my friend Janessa, I wasn’t impressed with it. Actually, that would be an understatement. The mascara didn’t do anything for me at all. Not only it didn’t add volume as it promised to, but it also barely made my lashes any longer.
Then, Janessa told me this mascara performs best on curled lashes. I rarely curl my lashes. I know that it really opens up your eyes, but after I’ve spent 20 minutes applying my eyeshadows, the last thing I want to do is to use an eyelash curler. I just prefer to stick to fuss-free mascaras that give you a dramatic result and some curl in one or two coats.
Still, I gave it a go, and this time, I saw an improvement. Buxom Lash still didn’t provide any volume, which I still think it’s a fail as this is marketed as a volumizing mascara when it clearly isn’t (and this is also the reason why I couldn’t give it a higher rating), but I was pleased with how long it made my lashes look and how well the wand separated them.
However, the rubber-bristle, hourglass-shaped wand is not very user-friendly. The reason? Its big size, which makes it difficult to reach the smaller lashes without getting the mascara on the skin. It gets easier with practice, though. Once on the lashes, however, the mascara didn’t smudge nor flake, and easily lasted throughout the day, until I easily took it off with a makeup remover.
It also doesn’t clump, no matter how many coats you apply, which is a good thing as I usually apply two or three. One doesn’t really give me the result I’m looking for. Overall, Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara is a good everyday mascara that provides long, separated and natural-looking lashes suitable for school or the workplace. But if volume’s what you’re after, give this a miss. It will only disappoint you.

Wow, it made your lashes look a lot longer! But total bummer on it not having any volume. I would expect volume from something called “Buxom.”

Trisha, I agree. I think it’s a great lengthening mascara, and it’s such a shame that it’s marketed as a volumizing one instead.
WOW :O .

Oh wow..for a 3.5 rating, still your lashes look really really GORGEOUS on your after photo! the length is amazing!
Nikki, thanks! If this had been marketed as a lengthening mascara it would have received a much higher rating. The length is amazing indeed!
