QOTW: Do You Compliment Strangers On Their Makeup?

compliment strangers makeup

Do you compliment strangers on their makeup?

My answer: if I’m being served by a SA or just been introduced to someone wearing a gorgeous makeup look, then I’ll compliment them. But I wouldn’t stop a stranger down the street to tell them how great their makeup is. I don’t really feel comfortable doing that.

Typically not on the streets, but if we’re both sitting somewhere (waiting for bus, on metro etc) and happen to make eye contact, then I would probably compliment them :)

Julia, in that situation it would feel ok, I agree. But I wouldn’t feel comfortable stopping a stranger down the street to compliment them either.

Trisha, it’s the same here. They either wear no makeup at all or the no makeup makeup look. At times, I feel like the only woman in my small town who wears makeup lol.

Ana, I would only compliment them when they wear something really special too, I agree. I’m not against complimenting, but I’d feel weird to compliment a stranger about their makeup if there wasn’t anything special about it, if you know what I mean.

Never. But then I never see very well made up ladies 😀
I even hesitate to do the contrary: when someone’s makeup slipped, mascara’s gone awol or lippie stained the teeth.

I do love it though, when people tell me, though I am far too shy to do likewise.

Beate, I’m quite shy too, which is why I would do it only if I saw someone wear something special. And even I’d feel a bit uncomfortable in doing so. I’d be more prone to tell them about some mistake though as I would really appreciate it if someone did the same for me. :)

I’m usually way too scared to, I think I have on occasion when it’s been someone serving me in a shop or someone talking to me, but usually I just bore my friends and family to death talking about how gorgeous whoever it was looked.

Katie, lol. That’s definitely less scary. But I think it depends on the occasion. Sometimes it feels right to compliment a stranger, at others it just feels too uncomfortable and that’s ok too.

I have done with patients who visit where I work. They might wear a nice colour lipstick or have nice nail polish. :)

I most definitely do! Even if I’m walking down the streets, I will compliment people on their makeup (when I like it). If we’re just standing together for a while (on a train, at a party, waiting in line), I’ll even ask what product he or she is wearing. :]
I don’t remember a time I’ve got negative feedback. Those whom I’ve complimented return a smile followed by some form of thanks.
I guess it could be my demeanor. I look quite young (little), I am far from intimidating, I smile a lot and I must be smiling when I compliment people because I only do so sincerely and honestly.

Janessa, I think everyone likes to be complimented, yet most of us are scared to approach someone and tell them how great they look. I guess it’s because we’re not used to it. But how lovely of you to pay compliments to everyone, you’re a star. *hugs*
