Product Review: Bulgari BLV II Fragrance

bulgari blv II

Name: BLV II
Brand: Bulgari
Size: 1.07oz
Price: $69.00

What I liked:
– a lovely my skin scent but better
– very subtle, can easily be worn on any occasion
– unisex
– pretty bottle

What I didn’t like:
– if you don’t like very subtle perfumes that stay too close to the skin, this is not for you
– short staying power

I’m not a big fan of Bulgari scents. The brand specializes in “my skin scent but better” fragrances, while I like rich, opulent, exotic blends. I can’t really see what the point is in wearing a fragrance if noone, you included, can actually smell it, especially at this price point. However, we all have different tastes and I know women who can appreciate the subtlety and transparency of this kind of scents, which make them easy to wear on any occasions, including at the office.

And if you’re looking for a perfume that enhances your skin’s natural scent, making those who are close enough to you to get an occasional whiff of it wonder if it is your own skin that is producing it, then you may want to give Bulgari BLV II a try. The fragrance opens with a transparent, almost aquatic violet note enhanced by the subtlest hints of fresh mandarin. I was actually disappointed this note isn’t stronger as I love anything citrus.

The floral heart – a blend of iris, jasmine and lily of the valley – is creamy, smooth and powdery. Unlike most white flowers accords, this is so toned down that it never becomes very feminine. The whole scent could, in fact, be classified as unisex. Finally, the warm woody, musky base adds just a hint of masculinity that quickly disappears. Overall, the scent is very balanced, never leaning more than an inch towards one end of the spectrum, elegant and fresh.

And it is also very subtle. Not only it smells very similar to your skin, but it also stays very close to it. I can smell Bulgari BLV II for about 3 hours. After that, the scent becomes so subtle that you start wondering whether you really applied it in the morning. Frequent reapplications throughout the day are definitely needed with this scent. I would highly recommend you try a sample first so you can decide whether you like it enough to forgive it its short staying power.

Available at: amazon, and sephora

Bulgari BLV II is an unisex my skin but better scent that stays close to the skin and is appropriate for any occasion. However, some people may find it too subtle, and its staying power is very disappointing too.

Oo, I haven’t heard of “my skin but better” before. 😀 ah! All the neat things I learn from your blog! I haven’t even heard off ragrances that merely tweak the smell of skin. I always thought of perfume as a scent that covers the skin’s scent. Thank you for not only reviewing this specific product but the feel or the brand too.

Janessa, you’re welcome. I don’t really get the point of my skin but better scents tbh. Like you, I think perfume should cover the skin’s scent. Yet, lots of women love this type of scents and it’s nice that there are brands that are catering to them.
