Name: Play Intense For Men Eau De Toilette
What I liked:
- lovely and sweet, but not overly-so, woody oriental scent with citrusy accents
- not too strong and perfect for any occasion
- good staying power for an EDT
- could be worn by women too
- the bottle is shaped like an MP3 player, which is cool and fun
What I didn’t like:
- unoriginal and unremarkable
Givenchy claims that “there’s nothing feminine about” Play Intense For Men Eau De Toilette, but I beg to disagree. In the past few years, we’ve seen perfumes and colognes for men becoming sweeter and subtler, stopping just in time not to allow the scent to overstep the mark into feminine territory, and Givenchy Play Intense For Men Eau De Toilette is no exception. I wouldn’t really describe it as feminine, but more as unisex. I could definitely see women who are into men’s colognes wear this and loving its fruity/oriental sweetness.
The scent opens with a sweet but fresh strong burst of citrusy bergamot and mandarin, which are soon joined by Amyris Wood, a Caribbean wood that, according to the brand, gives Play Intense its sensual and warm radiance. At this stage, I can also smell whiffs of pink pepper that help to spice up the scent somewhat. The drydown is a sweet oriental blend of tonka bean, vetiver and patchouli, which smells lovely but also dated. So many scents have the same accord that you’ve just learnt to expect it and so when it arrives, it just bores you.
Having said that, the scent does smell nice. It’s warm, its sensual, it’s sweet but not overly so and I can see many women loving it, both on themselves and on their partners. It’s also perfect for the cold season and, because it’s not too strong, could easily be worn on most occasions, both casual and formal. And for an Eau De Toilette, it’s pretty longlasting. I get 12 hours of wear before it starts to fade. My only problem with it is its lack of originality. The bottle makes up for it somewhat. It is shaped like an MP3 Player, which is both fun and edgy. Too bad you can’t say the same for the juice inside.
Givenchy Play Intense For Men Eau De Toilette is a warm, sensual and sweet, but not overly so, woody oriental scent with citrusy accents that could be worn by women too. Neither too strong nor too subtle, it can be worn both on causal and formal occasions. Staying power is impressive for an EDT too. Unfortunately, unlike the MP3 player-shaped bottle, the fragrance itself is also very unoriginal and predictable.
