Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.55

Hello everyone,

and welcome to the first random ramblings of the year! Here we go:

Christmas Beauty Gifts

Although my loved ones always point out to me that I have too many beauty products, they always give me some more at Christmas (not that I’m complaining ;) ). I thought I’d show you some of the stuff I’ve received this year. The cute blue angel on the right is a Pupa palette. It has become a bit of tradition for my mom to get me a Pupa palette for Christmas. She’s been doing so since my teenage years and I love it. This one features icy blue, grey and white eyeshadows, sheer pink and purple glosses, and a mirror. And the small size makes it easier to travel with. My boyfriend instead gave me a soap, four beautiful bath bombs that smell gorgeous and the most adorable hand cream I’ve ever seen. Yep, that fuchsia owl houses a moisturizing hand cream that smell like wild roses. I’ve also got an Elizabeth Arden Green Tea set which features the eau de perfume with a matching shower gel and body lotion from my grandma. What about you? Did you receive any beauty-related gifts this Christmas?

What I’m Reading Now

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Hiro Protagonist is a hacker that is forced to deliver pizzas for the mafia to pay the bills in a future America that is both bizarre and unrecognizable. He’s always connected to the Metaverse, a virtual reality where he first hears of a computer virus that is making hackers sick and which he decides to try and stop. While the plot is interesting, the book is extremely slow-paced. So slow that nothing happens for entire chapters. The main themes of the book, such as virus, language, religion and Sumerian mythology are also submerged under an incessant flow of technological allusions and explanations that are very hard for non-techy people to understand, and thus will just bore you. This had the potential to be a great book, but the unengaging writing style is making it so hard for me to finish it and I hate when that happens. Overall, I’d only recommend it to die-hard fans of the techy science fiction genre.

Sunday Survey, Vol.134

1. Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet?
Nope, I’ll do it tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it at all. The holidays went by way too fast!

2. Are there any lipsticks you love but are scared to wear?
Vampy and dark red and plum shades. I just don’t think I could pull them off.

3. Favourite album of the moment?
At the moment I’m listening to The Origin Of Love by Mika a lot. It’s fab!

4. Do you prefer Burberry or Mulberry?
Burberry! I love their check pattern. Instead, to me, Mulberry is more of an old person’s brand and doesn’t appeal to me as much yet.

5. Do you like trench coats?
I think they are pretty, but I don’t think I’d wear them. They’re just not my style.

  1. I finally got an emerald shade of polish I’ve been lemming for. I can’t wait to try it out – I’ll probably do so for my master thesis defense (finger’s crossed).

    1. Christmas Eve is tonight for us, so no :D .

    2. Oranges and those icy pinks.

    3. Vitalic’s OK Cowboy is a perennial favourite, but Nicholas Lens is a new and unexpectedly amazing find, and so is Marek Biliński.
Janelle Monáe, w00t, too. And Shameboy’s Heartcore. And Pero Defformero – Undergrand.
I have a few game soundtracks I can’t stop playing: PPPPPP – The VVVVVV Soundtrack, Hania Lee’s Tarboy and the music for Simon the Sorcerer enhanced by James Woodcock.

I can’t pick just one, they’re all so good and so different.

  2. 1. Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet?
Yes. Actually our tree went days ago – it’s a living one, and was beginning to look as if it needed to get it’s roots into soil before it dried out :)
    2. Are there any lipsticks you love but are scared to wear?
Strong red colours. With my pale skin they look too much, but I’d love to be able to wear them!
    3. Favourite album of the moment?
I don’t really know! Tend to listen to a lot of ‘this and that’ and the children’s music. I haven’t had anything new for myself lately, apart from Now That’s What I call Reggae. I do love Agnus Dei I and II to calm myself down when things get hectic, and it’s nostalgia because it’s all recorded in the chapel of the college that I attended :) I have wide-reaching and eclectic taste in music!
    4. Do you prefer Burberry or Mulberry?
No opinion really – someone at work has a new Mulberry bag that apparently cost A LOT of money! I love my bag from Zara – they’re more my thing tbh.
    5. Do you like trench coats?
Oh yes please! Probably what I’d go for if I were getting a new coat right now.

    Viv in the UK x

    • Viv, I love Mulberry bags, but I’m not sure I’d spend that much for one.. I think there are many inexpensive ones that are very well-made and can last for years if you take good care of them.

  3. It’s your turn now!
    1. Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet?
There aren’t any decoration actually (my parents are still lazy to remove theirs and sometime they have the tree out for a whole year, never bothered to remove them)

    2. Are there any lipsticks you love but are scared to wear?
    Pasty nude or black.

    3. Favourite album of the moment?
Hmmm…There are several of them Eugene Onegin sung by Vishnevskaya, Belov (forgot the conductor) and UZA by akb48.

    4. Do you prefer Burberry or Mulberry?
Mulberry. Mainly because I don’t like brand that’s so easy to identify (Oh, that’s a Burberry!)

    5. Do you like trench coats?
Neutral. Don’t mind them or love them.

    • Citrine, I know what you mean about brands easy to identify. I’m usually not a big fan of brands that display their logo anywhere for example, but there’s something about check patterns that just appeal to me.

  4. can we see the pupa angel palettee soon? it’s so adorable!

    1. Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet?
-not yet, we still have the christmas tree around :D

    2. Are there any lipsticks you love but are scared to wear?
    - hmm maybe lipstick in plum shade, i tend to look like a zombie

    3. Favourite album of the moment?
    - hmmm not any at the moment.

    4. Do you prefer Burberry or Mulberry?
    - hmmm bags? strawberry is my ultimate favorite :D

    5. Do you like trench coats?
    - i think they look really good on tall and slender ladies, otherwise it can shorten the overall appearance

    • Xin, it’s really cute indeed! And sure, I’ll review it soon. :)

Plum shades are quite difficult to pull off, aren’t they? It’s a shame cos they are beautiful!

  5. Too adorable! I want to snatch that owl off my monitor, it’s so cute. I received some hair products from Khiel’s, TBS gingerbread body butter, no makeup :o.
    1. Just Saturday morning I took them down. :[ Time flies!
    2. Reds! I will wear dark colors but I haven’t found a blue red that looks natural on me. I’ve found orangey-reds and pinkish reds but not blue reds.
    3. Birdy!
    4. Burberry just because they have nice makeup. I really like the cookie-style Mulberry bags. http://www.belstaffbags.net/images/belstaffbag/Mulberry-Cookie-Bayswater-Leather-Bag-Oak.jpg I like the trim :D
    5. I do like them but not on me.

    • Janessa, that owl is adorable indeed and it looks even better in real life. And I’m glad you got some nice beauty stuff too, even if not makeup.

The cookie-style bags are beautiful indeed. :)

  6. 1. Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet? I was away for the whole holiday period (was staying with my family) so I did not even put them up, believe it or not.
    2. Are there any lipsticks you love but are scared to wear? No, I wear everything that I want to.
    3. Favourite album of the moment?
    4. Do you prefer Burberry or Mulberry? I don’t have anything from Mulberry and do have some things from Burberry, so, I guess, the first.
    5. Do you like trench coats? I do and would like to have a Burberry one.

    • Marina, I guess there is no point in putting them up if you’re not gonna be there. And I hope you enjoyed the holidays with your family. I wish you all a very happy new year too!
