Product Review: Juliette Has A Gun Vengeance Extreme

Name: Juliette Has A Gun
Brand: Vengeance Extreme
Size: 100ml
Price: €103,00

What I liked:
– bold and concentrated dirty rose and patchouli scent
– a masculine version of Lady Vengeance that can be easily worn by both women and men
– good sillage and staying power
– pretty bottle

What I didn’t like:
– if you don’t like patchouli, stay away from this
– very simple and unoriginal

When a flanker has the word “extreme” in its name, you know it’s gonna be an exaggerated version of the original, in which one or more notes have been enhanced to the highest degree. And that note in Vengeance Extreme, a follow up to Lady Vengeance, – a linear, feminine and dark rose, vanilla and patchouli concoction -, is the latter, patchouli. It’s a risky choice because, while a lot of women may enjoy a strong dark rose or very sweet vanilla scent, a generous dose of patchouli may send most of them running in the opposite direction.

Patchouli, in fact, is one of those notes that people either love or hate. As for me, I love it. There is no way I could enjoy Vengeance Extreme otherwise as the patchouli is very strong, pungent and present right from the very beginning. Pretty soon, a dirty rose appears and mingles with the patchouli, but not for long. An hour later, when the rose has completely faded away, you can smell the patchouli in all its raw, dirty, earthy, glory. I can also smell a smooth, slightly animalic, leather note. As for the vanilla, you really have to look for it, or you’ll miss it. It’s that subtle.

Vengeance Extreme is a dirty rose and patchouli scent that’s linear and very concentrated. Bold and powerful, this unisex blend, which could also be described as a masculine version of Lady Vengeance, is however easily wearable (unless you really hate patchouli, of course). The scent doesn’t stay too close to the skin, but it’s won’t be smelt a mile off either and won’t give those around you a headache. And it’ll hang around for the the entire day, becoming softer and subtler as the day progresses. Although I love Vengeance Extreme, I can’t help but feel that one patchouli-rose scent was already enough for a niche brand. After all, Lady Vengeance was hardly original and its flanker even less.

Vengeance Extreme is a concentrated dirty rose and patchouli scent with the softest hint of vanilla. The scent, which can be easily worn by both men and women, has good sillage and staying power but lacks complexity and originality.

I don’t know what patchouli smells like off the top of my head. I do know what fruitchuli smells like :P.
I’m very interested in Juliette Has a Gun perfumes because of you!
I went to TBS this evening and got a chance to smell some of the holiday scents! I really like the gingerbread man one but I passed on the store because I hadn’t much time and I went to pick up a few bottles of Philosophy gels instead.

Janessa, patchouli is one of those notes one will either love or hate as it is pungent, raw and earthy. If you’re interested in their perfumes, they have a discovery kit available with samples of all their scents at an affordable price.
Haha you must love your Philosophy. 😉 The Ginger one is a lovely scent for Christmas, warm and effervescent.
