From The Body Shop’s website:
A scented soap that cleanses skin without drying it out. It contains natural exfoliating particles that leave skin soft and smooth.

What I liked:
- cleanse skin well / puliscono bene la pelle
- exfoliate skin, leaving it smooth and bright / hanno anche un’azione esfoliante, lasciano la pelle levigata e luminosa
- Vanilla Bliss is the gentlest of the three / Estasi Di Vaniglia è la più delicata delle tre
- lovely scents / profumazioni deliziose
- cute packaging / packaging carino
- the price / il prezzo

What I didn’t like:
- Cranberry Joy and Ginger Sparkle can dry out and irritate skin if used too often / Gioia Di Mirtillo e Zenzero Brioso posso irritare la pelle se usate troppo spesso

I’m not a big fan of bar soaps (liquid ones are more convenient), but I love a multi-tasking product. So, when I was sent The Beauty Shop Soaps in Cranberry Joy, Ginger Sparkle and Vanilla Bliss, which contain natural exfoliating particles, I was intrigued. These cute soaps not only remove all traces of dirt and other impurities from the skin, but also slough off the dead cells on the surface, leaving it clean, smooth and bright.

My favourite is Vanilla Bliss. Not only it smells like vanilla ice cream (yummy!), but it is also the gentlest of the three. Pale yellow in colour, this round soap contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Cocamidropopyl Betaine, two gentle surfactants that clean skin without irritating it. Cranberry Joy, which is a cute pink in colour, and Ginger Sparkle, which is bright yellow, instead contain Sodium Palmate and Sodium Palm Kernelate.

Both are derived from palm oil and while they have good cleansing properties, they are usually formulated at an alkaline ph, which can disrupt the skin’s protective barrier, causing dryness and irritation. However, when used in moderation, they should be fine. I have very dry skin but because I love the scents (Cranberry Joy has a sweet and fruity berry scent, while Ginger Sparkle smells of ginger bread with a hint of Coke), I’ll be using them once a week, when I’m in need of some exfoliation too. But for a more regular use, Vanilla Bliss is more suitable.

Summary
The Body Shop Soaps in Cranberry Joy, Ginger Sparkle and Vanilla Bliss cleanse and exfoliate skin, removing all traces of dirt, impurities and dead cells. As a result, skin is soft, smooth and brighter. However, Cranberry Joy and Ginger Sparkle contain harsher surfactants that may dry and irritate skin if used too often. They all smell delicious though!

Rating: Vanilla Bliss 4/5, Cranberry Joy and Ginger Sparkle 3.5/5

    • Xin, I agree, bar soaps are a bit of a pain to use. It’s a shame cos some of them are lovely. I prefer to use a shower gel too and TBS makes some good ones. I haven’t tried the grapefruit one yet though. :)

  1. It’s awesome that you translate your reviews it in Italian too. You are so talented!
I may start picking up some Italian words ;].
I actually like bar soap since I’ve found some inexpensive, non-drying, bar soaps. I don’t use them exclusively and I prefer shower gels (like Philosophy’s) but I do both.
Finally caught up with all your posts! Don’t worry about replying to all my comments. I just flooded your inbox or something writing all these comments at once.
I promised myself to comment on your posts because they deserve them all.

    • Janessa, I’m glad you enjoy it and learning some Italian words that way. ;)

I agree that some bar soaps are gentle and lovely, but I don’t think I could switch entirely to them because they’re not that convenient. But once in a while, why not?

Actually, when this morning I checked my emails and saw there were more comments than usual, I thought, “Janessa must be back”. :) I was thinking about you just yesterday, wondering how the application went. Still keeping my fingers crossed for you. :) And of course I’ll reply to them all! Your dedication deserves to be rewarded. I appreciate and enjoy every single comment you leave, thank you. :)

I’m so anxious to find out from the school, a bit scared since I really want to make it in. So sweet of you to remember!
