Product Review: Ciccone Lipstick in Rhea

Name: Lipstick in Rhea
Brand: Ciccone
Price: $25.00 AUD

From Ciccone’s website:
A lipstick that feels the way a lipstick should feel. Australian made for women who love their lippies!

What I liked:
– good colour payoff
– creamy texture, glides on smoothly
– longlasting
– lovely vanilla scent
– cute pink packaging engraved with crystals

What I didn’t like:
– slightly drying, can emphasize flakes
– some people may find the packaging too over-the-top

Being a girly girl with a love for history and mythology, I couldn’t help but squeak with delight when, opening a package sent me by my friend Tine (thanks hun!), a cute Ciccone lipstick came out. Each Ciccone lipstick is named after a Greek goddess and is housed in a bubblegum pink tube decorated with small crystals that spell out the name of the Australian brand. While I’m sure some women will find it too over-the-top and teeny bopperish, I think it’s super cute!

The shade I was sent is called Rhea, who was the Titaness daughter of Urano and Gaia, and the mother of the gods (Demeter, Hera, Hestia, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus were all her children). Rhea is a soft nude shade that almost exactly matches my skintone. I was a afraid that, because of it, it would make me look washed out, but it’s actually quite flattering, especially when I’m wearing bright and bold eyeshadows.

Although it is opaque in just one coat, the colour is also very delicate. If you prefer a more intense colour payoff, you’ll have to layer it. The texture is incredibly creamy and goes on like butter, yet it feels slightly drying on the lips and could accentuate any dry patches they may have, so I recommend you wear lip balm underneath. My lips are usually in good condition so this is not really a problem for me.

Rhea has impressive staying power. I’m lucky if a lipstick lasts a whole couple of hours on my lips, but Rhea started fading after three and a half! And did I mention how delicious the scent is? Ciccone lipsticks smell just like vanilla ice cream! And although the scent hangs around for a little while, it is not so strong as to bother my nose.

Available at:

Ciccone Lipstick in Rhea is a beautiful nude shade with good colour payoff, longlasting staying power and a creamy texture that glides like butter on the lips. However, if your lips aren’t in great condition, it can be slightly drying and enhance flakiness. As for the packaging, you will either love it or hate it.

I like the packaging since it’s so fun 😀 Of course I wouldn’t want more than one or two of their lipsticks because of the price and packaging. I want something more elegant with that $.

Janessa, that’s a good point. The packaging is very cute but I agree that at that price point many women would like to get something more elegant. Still, we can always get one for the princess in all of us. :)

Speaking of our inner princess, LUSH makes me feel like one since it smells so nice. Do you have LUSH? I just washed my hair with a LUSH product and I feel like I came from Sugar Rush (Wreck It Ralph movie which I LOVE and you should watch it someday).

I recently bought some LUSH products and never did I pay much attention to the brand but I love how fun their scents are.

Janessa, we have Lush here in Italy, but in my town so I don’t tried much from them. I always love to go to one of their shops when I have the chance, though. Everything smells so good, makes you feel like a princess indeed. :)

Makeup Morsels, the scent is so yummy! And naming the shades after Greek goddesses is such a cool idea, isn’t it?

The packaging doesn’t appeal to me, but I love the name! I’ve been trying to find a good matte lipstick, but I haven’t had much luck. All I want is something that adds a little natural looking colour.

Lily, I think the packaging of these lipsticks will be a dealbreaker for many. And colours like that are so hard to find, aren’t they?
