What I liked:
- lovely and sweet floral vanilla scent / buona e dolce fragranza alla vaniglia
- pretty bottle / bottiglia carina

What I didn’t like:
- it may be too sweet for some people / alcune persone potrebbero trovarla troppo dolce
- simple, lacks complexity and originality / semplice, non è ne complessa nè originale

Madagascar. The sun is blazing in the bright blue sky. A vanilla orchid winds around a tree. As its pods ripens, its sweet scent fills the air and is carried far away by a gentle breeze. This is exactly the moment The Body Shop tried to capture in their new Madagascan Vanilla Flower Eau De Toilette, one of the five fragrances that make up the Scents of the World range, created with natural extracts, hand-picked and harvested with care, and 100% organic alcohol.

Packaged in a sleek and beautiful bottle with an image of an African prairie complete with vanilla flowers, Madagascan Vanilla Flower is described as an oriental gourmand, but to me it’s more of a floral oriental. The main note is obviously vanilla, whose sweetness never turns into gourmand thanks to the addition of a fragrant bouquet of frangipani and accents of warm amber. It’s a very sweet (but not so much to be nauseating), youthful and warm scent.

It reminds me of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, but lacks its complexity. Madagascan Vanilla Flower is, in fact, very linear and straightforward. The initial burst is quite strong and, although it subsides within a few minutes, the scent never really evolves. What you’ll smell at the beginning is what you’ll smell till the end. It’s a simple scent that will appeal to those who love a sweet vanilla fragrance. They’ll be enveloped in its warm embrace from morning till night.

Madagascar.

Summary
The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla Floral Eau de Toilette is a very simple and sweet (but not foody), floral oriental scent that lasts from morning till night and is affordable. However, some may find it too sweet, linear and unoriginal for their taste.

at one look it looks like body oil to me! my general impression with bodyshop fragrances is – they disappear pretty quickly on me, only lasts for 1-2 hours

Xin, this one is pretty longlasting. I was pretty surprised as it’s an EDT and so didn’t expect it to last long. Do try a sample if you can, you may like it more than you think.

My Outremer Vanilla perfume lasts me all day too and it’s really basic so I won’t be picking up this one though I will have to take a whiff of it. :D If their other scents appeal to me, I may pick one up considering how nice this one is.

You are so talented! You’re very fluent in both Italian and English and so educated in cosmetics and skincare. You write well and read a lot! :] When I told my teacher about your blog (2 months back) she said it’s so nice to have such a wonderful person to look up to.

Janessa, this is a lovely vanilla scent and it got me curious to try the others in the range too. :)

Aww you’re always too nice to me. Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot to me. :)
