Product Review: Flora By Gucci Glamorous Magnolia Fragrance

What I liked:
– if you like very sweet fruity floral scents, this is for you
– beautiful, elegant bottle

What I didn’t like:
– if you don’t like sickly sweet scents, stay away from this one
– generic and unremarkable scent
– needs to be reapplied throughout the day
– the price

When I asked for samples of Gorgeous Gardenia, Gracious Tuberose and Glamorous Magnolia, three new floral scents that are part of the Flora by Gucci Garden Collection, I knew that I wouldn’t have been particularly impressed (after all, floral scents aren’t really my cup of tea), but I had never expected not to like any of them at all.

I know that fragrance is a very personal thing and I’m sure there are lots of women out there who love one or even all of these scents, but I can’t help but being disappointed by how unremarkable, short-lived and inappropriately named these are. If you’ve read my review of Gorgeous Gardenia, you’ll know that the gardenia in it never shows. The Magnolia in Glamorous Magnolia fares a bit better. It’s quite light and sheer, and a bit hard to detect, but at least it’s there.

After an initial burst of watermelon wrapped in a sickly sweet, sugary bubblegum sprinkled with citrusy accents, the magnolia note makes it appearance. And so do the freesia and peony ones, which are actually stronger and more prominent. I find that odd considering the scent is called Glamorous Magnolia, not Glamorous Freesia and Peony. In the drydown, musk mingles with chocolate which adds a certain creaminess to the scent.

Glamorous Magnolia is a fun and flirty fragrance that will appeal to yonger women who are into very sweet fruity floral scents. But for that, there’s no need to spend 70$. There are lots of similar scents on the market that cost a lot less and last a lot more. Although Glamorous Magnolia is the most longlasting of the three scents in this collection, it still needs to be reapplied after about six hours of wear.

Available at: amazon and boots

Summary:
Flora by Gucci Glamorous Magnolia is a generic and very sweet fruity floral scent that lasts only 6 hours. Fans of this kind of scent will enjoy it despite its lack of originality.

Rating: 2.5/5

    • Plue, I hope so too. A good magnolia scent is hard to find and this unfortunately isn’t it. The magnolia in it is very subtle and the scent so short-lived!

  1. Thank you so much for these reviews, and for reviewing fragrances even if they’re not good and even if they’re from the same brand. I know to steer clear of Gucci fragrances :D. You rock!

    • Janessa, you’re welcome. The new ones are a disappointment indeed. I loved the concept, but they have executed it so poorly!

    • Janessa, I agree. If I paid that much to wear a scent, then it should be something complex, unique and beautiful.
