When I asked for samples of Gorgeous Gardenia, Gracious Tuberose and Glamorous Magnolia, three new floral scents that are part of the Flora by Gucci Garden Collection, I knew that I wouldn’t have been particularly impressed (after all, floral scents aren’t really my cup of tea), but I had never expected not to like any of them at all.
I know that fragrance is a very personal thing and I’m sure there are lots of women out there who love one or even all of these scents, but I can’t help but being disappointed by how unremarkable, short-lived and inappropriately named these are. If you’ve read my review of Gorgeous Gardenia, you’ll know that the gardenia in it never shows. The Magnolia in Glamorous Magnolia fares a bit better. It’s quite light and sheer, and a bit hard to detect, but at least it’s there.
After an initial burst of watermelon wrapped in a sickly sweet, sugary bubblegum sprinkled with citrusy accents, the magnolia note makes it appearance. And so do the freesia and peony ones, which are actually stronger and more prominent. I find that odd considering the scent is called Glamorous Magnolia, not Glamorous Freesia and Peony. In the drydown, musk mingles with chocolate which adds a certain creaminess to the scent.
Glamorous Magnolia is a fun and flirty fragrance that will appeal to yonger women who are into very sweet fruity floral scents. But for that, there’s no need to spend 70$. There are lots of similar scents on the market that cost a lot less and last a lot more. Although Glamorous Magnolia is the most longlasting of the three scents in this collection, it still needs to be reapplied after about six hours of wear.
Flora by Gucci Glamorous Magnolia is a generic and very sweet fruity floral scent that lasts only 6 hours. Fans of this kind of scent will enjoy it despite its lack of originality.
