Beautiful with brains says: I trust beauty brands to make safe products (putting toxic stuff in them is illegal after all). I also think most of them strive to develop products that work well. However, I don’t trust the marketing and product claims at all. Even when the product is genuinely really good, the marketing claims are hugely exaggerated, so you can’t really trust anything they say.

The same as you: I trust them not to harm me, but I don’t trust the “900% INCREASE IN VOLUME OF YOUR LASHES” ads.
Now that I think of it, they sound just like spam emails, only geared towards women.

Ana, that’s so true. And mascara ads are te worst. Who on earth would want lashes that long anyway?! Their claims are so utterly ridiculous!
I only trust beauty brands where I’ve used many well-performing products from them or they’re reputable. If they’ve had some incidents (like Jack Black) that shows dishonesty or poor quality, I won’t buy from them and I’d rather search for something else out there. I don’t trust claims either, but I will expect the product to follow some of their claims. A mascara box saying the product will increase lash length by 800% better lengthen my lashes, but I won’t expect 2-inch long lashes
. I just realized how long I haven’t commented on your blog, oh I’m sorry. :[ I do read what you post up every day but I just hadn’t the time to write and I don’t want to just comment with thoughtless words.
Janessa, thank you for taking the time to leave thoughtful comments, I really appreciate it. And don’t worry if sometimes you can. I know you’re busy and real life is more important.
And I agree with you. I do expect products to fulfil some of their claims, I just wish they didn’t blow them out of all proportions. Some of them are so ridiculous that it just makes you sceptical towards the brand, which is not really a good thing.
