Name: Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Eyeshadow in Tough As Taupe
Brand: Maybelline
Size: 4g
Price: $6.99

From Myabelline’s website:
Ink technology creates 24HR wear shadow for our most intense, long-lasting color saturation
Cream formula glides on without creasing and keeps color vibrant

What I liked:
- very pigmented
- texture feels comfortable on the lid
- once set, it doesn’t budge nor crease for at least 8 hours
- doubles up as a base for powder eyeshadow

What I didn’t like:
- dries really quickly so you need to apply it fast and without mistakes that would be difficult to correct
- like all cream eyeshadows, it can dry out if you don’t close the lid well

I really love cream eyeshadows, but alas it is an unrequited love. They glide on so smoothly and look so pretty at first, but after a couple of hours, they migrate to my crease and make me look a right mess. Boo! So, when the new Color Tattoo range from Maybelline came out, I had mixed feelings about it. The reviews were raving which made me very curious to try them, but on the other hand, I was afraid they wouldn’t work for me and that I’d just be wasting money. And Maybelline is quite pricey here..

My dilemma was solved when one of my readers, Janessa, sent me one of them, Tough As Taupe, to try. Wasn’t that really nice of her? Tough As Taupe looks like a true taupe in the pot, but when applied it’s actually a dark grey shade with a hint of brown and an almost matte finish. It is a very wearable shade that I’m using a lot at the moment.

We’re in the middle of a long heatwave (which started at the beginning of July) so I’m wearing as little makeup as possible, which means mascara, gloss, a hint of blush, a touch of concealer where needed and Tough As Taupe on the lids. It is so pigmented that one swipe is enough to get a full colour effect, but you can always sheer it out if you prefer a less dramatic look.

Just make sure you blend it quickly. Tough As Taupe has a thick, quite dry texture that dries really quickly so you need to blend it immediately after you’ve applied it on the lid and work very fast otherwise it can look blotchy and spotty. Once the colour is set, it just won’t budge. I was worried it would crease pretty soon, but I noticed some minor creasing and fading only after 8 houes. And that without a primer!

With a primer instead, the colour stayed put and vibrant for 12. Although it doesn’t last for the 24 promised hours, I think the staying power is still very impressive for a drugstore cream eyeshadow. And it doubles up as a primer too. Tough As Taupe has a sticky, yet comfortable texture that makes it a great base for powder eyeshadows. It really grabs the colour, intensifying it and making it last for at least 10 hours. But make sure you close the lid well after you’ve done using it or the colour may dry out and become useless!

Available at: drugstore.com and ulta.com

Summary
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Eyeshadow in Tough As Taupe is a brownish grey shade with exceptional colour payoff that lasts up to 8 hours without creasing and fading on slightly oily lids even without a primer. The sticky texture also makes it ideal as a base for powder eyeshadows.

Rating: 4/5

I’ve been wanting to try this for ages but it’s not sold here :-( I guess I’ll either wait it out, or CP. Furthermore, taupe is my biggest weakness…

Lily, I hope it will be available in your country soon. It’s really a wonderful range of cream eyeshadows and this colour is beautiful.

I like that color a lot. In the packaging, I wasn’t that impressed, but you sold me on the swatch.

Sorry, gio…typed too fast…..

I have Turquoise Forever (Tenacious Teal in the US),the gold one and the bronze one. The bronze one is awesome. Sorry, I don’t quite remember their names, whether the US or UK name.

Then I got 2 colors which are not available in the UK from Walmart, Edgy Emerald and Fierce&Tangy( a beautiful orange!). Fierce&Tangy is seriously pretty and lasts really long without creasing. But Edgy Emerald creases at the end of the day.

Sorry for not commenting for so long. I haven’t been blogging either. Traveling and family matters to attend to. Btw, we are having a heatwave in Southern California too.

Vonvon, the teal one is on my wishlist, and will try and get the bronze one too if it is that pretty. I hope they will soon expand the range of colours in Europe as it’s a shame that only a bunch of them are available here.

And no worries. You’ve been very missed, but real life is more important. I hope you and your family are all well. :)

But I have to say, Tough as Taupe, doesn’t impress me at all. I swatched it in-store but just couldnt bring myself to like it. Though I like some taupe colors!

Vonvon, I like this shade, but I find the name a bit misleading. I mean, it’s more of a dark grey than taupe when swatched. You just don’t expect it to show up the way it does. It’s pretty, but not everyone’s cup of tea. :)

Giorgia, you are ever the sweetest for always mentioning me! You don’t have to but it really makes me smile. Really wonderful review and I love that you go into detail and then have a summary of it at the bottom. I’ll send you some colored ones!
I use this for my brows haha.

I really like the colour of this one, unfortunately it’s not available here (btw, I think the Italian range is really strange: only six shades, and three of these are very bright).

Well, since I’m too slow when it comes to apply makeup, I should consider myself lucky for not wanting any shade sold here.

La Bisbetica, it’s a shame only 6 shades are available here. I love my brights but that was a weird choice indeed. I just hope we’ll get the entire range of colours too soon.
