Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.29

Happy Sunday,

I hope you’re having a nice and relaxing day. Ready for this week’s random ramblings? Here we go:

New Goodies

Several days ago I’ve received a package from one of my readers, Janessa. She’s a very lovely and sweet girl always ready to help others. Inside the package I found some Revlon lip products, a Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows, a CoverGirl palette, an Urban Decay Shadow Pencil, an eyeshadow and face powder from Bare Minerals, a Benefit concealer, an EOS lip balm (it smells gorgeous and looks so cute, don’t you think?), a cute Minnie pen and some adorable Hello Kitty plasters. There was also a Wet n Wild palette but I didn’t photograph it because one of the shades arrived completely smashed and I’m trying to see if I can press it again with some alcohol or I’ll just use it as a pigment instead. But that wasn’t Janessa’s fault as she had packaged everything so carefully, bless her. I thought it was so generous of her to send me so many wonderful goodies, I didn’t really expect it. I’ve been playing with them lately and I’m really impressed. Thanks a lot Janessa! :) And make sure you check out her youtube channel!

What I’m Reading Now

Dead Man’s Folly by Agatha Christie. Ariadne Oliver, a mystery novelist who’s a friend of Poirot (and Christie’s alter ago) is staying at Nasse House with some friends. Here, she helps create a murder mystery game, which is a sort of treasure hunt, only that the hints are leading to a murder victim and the winner needs to find out whodunnit, how and why. But Ariadne starts to feel that there is something wrong and that a crime is about to be committed for real (and she’s right), so she summons her friend Poirot. Although the reason behind the murder is pretty obvious from the very beginning (and I was surprised Poirot didn’t figure it out sooner, but then he comes across as quite dim for most of the book, really), there are so many possible suspects that you’ll really struggle to find out the culprit. In fact, the end took me totally by surprise. I love how Christie manages to keep readers in the dark till the end and create really complicated and far-fetched stories that yet sound very believable. It’s not one of her best books, but a very enjoyable read for fans of the genre.

Sunday Survey, Vol.109

1. How do you keep cool in the summer?
I drink lots of fresh water and use a small fan.

2. How often do you switch shampoo?
I usually try a new shampoo every year, even if the one I’m using is working well. I just get bored of using the same shampoo after a while.

3. Do you work out regularly?
I try to but we’re in the middle of a heatwave at the moment so I’m on a break. It’s too hot to move and even to sleep, let alone exercise!

4. True Blood: Team Bill or Team Eric?
Team Eric all the way!

5. Do you like braids?
I love French braids. They’re beautiful but I can’t do them. :(

Giorgia! When I opened my email, I thought to myself, “Doesn’t that Minnie pen look familiar?” Then I read the paragraph and freaked out. I ran away from my laptop and stared at myself in shock. A few minutes later, I’m writing this lol. I never have expected this! I feel a bit embarrassed because my YouTube channel isn’t very good. But thank you, Gio. I feel so blessed.
What’s one of your favorite Agatha Christie books? You’ve made me interested in them. :]

    1. Air conditioning, cold treats like ice cream or cold drinks like milk.
    2. Whenever I finish one bottle, I usually try a new one and whichever one smells best or is on sale. It takes me a few months usually because I don’t wash my hair every day and I get the super jumbo sized ones that a whole family can use.
    3. Nope! I am sedentary which is quite the opposite of me a few years ago.
    4. *looks up team bill and team eric* I don’t watch True Blood :[ is it good?
    5. I love braids of all sorts! Of course you can do a French braid! I really thought I couldn’t. Just do a regular braid but when you grab the outer ends, bring a piece of ‘outside’ hair with it before crossing it over. Just practice on the front of your hair so you can see what you’re doing. You can do it!

I love the Links again :]. Reading the ‘how to choose your hairbrush’ post, have you ever tried Mason Pearson brushes? I am so tempted… but they are quite expensive!

Janessa, sorry I shocked you hun, but you deserve to be mentioned. You’re so lovely and I hope you enjoyed it after the initial shock. And don’t be embarassed. Your Youtube channel is really good. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to do the things you do!

Assassin on the Orient Express. It’s one of the most famous, but it’s also my favourite. It’s so well-written and the end totally unexpected (if you haven’t seen the movie, that is :) ). The Mysterious Affair At Styles, which is her first book and introduces Poirot, is really good too.

True Blood is awesome! It’s full of sex and violence, so if that bothers you, you shouldn’t watch it. I’m usually not a big fan of shows like that, but I really love this one. It has some kick-ass characters and an intriguing storyline. And thanks for your encouragement re the braids. I’m really crap at doing anything with my hair but I will give it a go. :)

I don’t think I have ever seen Mason Pearson brushes here, sorry. But judging from the reviews on Makeup Alley, they sound really good so I guess you could consider them an investment as, if taken proper care of, they will last you for years.

Ah, no worries! It wasn’t a bad shock. It was like a way-too-good-to-be-true kinda shock. :] Thanks so much, Gio!

Okay, I’m going to order that one on trusty Amazon!

No, no, doesn’t bother me at all. I’m in to watch anything as long as it’s good!

I think I’ll start off with their comb. At $28! But yup, I’ll try my best to take care of them.

You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. You really made my day when I received the package and thought this was a nice way to thank you! :)

Those Revlon products look great and happy to see that you have a Maybelline eye shadow finally :)
    1. How do you keep cool in the summer? I try to be near the water every weekend and during the week I drink a lot of water.
    2. How often do you switch shampoo? I like having several options in my bathroom.
    3. Do you work out regularly? Yes, every day!
    4. True Blood: Team Bill or Team Eric? I LOVE vikings (have read lot of books about them and even did lots of projects about them back in uni) so, obviously, Eric. Although I hate that because of his character it’s kind of mainstream now.
    5. Do you like braids? Yes, But I would never do a full head of them.

Marina, wow, that’s great that you exercise everyday! I hope I’ll be able to do that too as soon as this heatvawe is over. :)
