From Essence’s website:
Effectively removes even waterproof makeup. 2-phase formula for double effectiveness. the blue phase gently removes even waterproof makeup, whilst the clear phase refreshes the eye area. also suitable to remove long lasting lipstick.

What I liked:
– removes all traces of waterproof makeup well
– gentle, doesn’t irritate the eyes
– can be also used on the lips
– cute packaging
– the price

What I didn’t like:
– leaves an oily residue behind

Essence Eye Makeup Remover Waterproof must be the prettiest makeup remover I’ve ever seen. Usually makeup removers are packaged in boring and sleek bottles, but this one has been enhanced simply by printing a cute drawing of a girl on the back side of the back label. That way, it looks like a mermaid is trapped inside the bottle! Unfortunately the liquid inside distorted the drawing when I took the photo, making the girl look a bit weird, but in real life it is very pretty.

The makeup remover itself does a pretty good job. It is biphasic so it needs to be shaken well before every use. The blue, oil-based phase removes even the most stubborn of makeup with ease. Longwearing eyeliners, waterproof mascaras and even longlasting lipsticks quickly dissolve without you having to pull and tug at your delicate eye area. The clear phase, instead, provides a nice refreshing feeling to the area.

It is also quite gentle and doesn’t sting nor irritate the eyes. So far it sounds great, right? But unfortunately there is a catch. This eye makeup remover leaves an oily residue behind, which means you will have to use another cleanser to remove it. I find this really annoying which is why, once the bottle is all used up, I won’t be repurchasing it.

Aqua, Paraffinum Liquidum, Cyclomethicone, Isopropyl Myristate, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, DMD Hydantoin, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linaloo, CI 61565

Available at: drugstores

Essence Eye Makeup Remover Waterproof quickly and effectively removes all traces of waterproof and longlasting makeup from lips and eyes without irritating them. However, it leaves an annoying oily residue behind.

hmm, just how bad is this oily residue? I’m not a huge fan of the feeling either, but for example Lancome Bi-Facil doesn’t bother me too much. It’s good that it’s gentle that removes waterproof makeup though! Those are my two main criteria for eye makeup removers.

Makeup Morsels, it’s very, very bad. Usually I’m not too bothered if it leaves a hint of oily residue behind, but my eyes are so shiny after I use this. It’s like they’re soaked in oil. eww. I’ll keep using it cos I hate to throw away barely-used products but I definitely won’t repurchase when it runs out.

I learned the word “biphasic” and that mermaid drawing sounds so cool! I love that it’s affordable and works really well. I wouldn’t mind the oily residue because I’d wash my face afterwards. Sorry for not commenting earlier! I kept this tab open (amongst my 12 other tabs haha) so I could comment but I forgot! :[ I love all your reviews and I think you did the most thorough job possible in describing makeup remover!

Janessa, it’s a shame about the oily residue because it works so well and the packaging is so cute! But I just can’t put up with it. And that’s ok. Just comment when you can. :)
