Product Review: The Body Shop Moringa Beautifying Oil

Name: Moringa Beautifying Oil

From The Body Shop’s website:
Beautifying Oil is pure beauty in a bottle. Made with a lightweight blend of nut oils including Community Fair Trade marula oil, it gives instant hydration and a shimmering finish. This one has a delicate white floral scent. For body, face and hair.

What I liked:
- moisturizes skin, leaving it soft and smooth for the entire day / idrata la pelle lasciandola morbida e levigata per l’intera giornata
- gives a nice, not greasy sheen to skin / done un bell’effetto luminoso, non unto, alla pelle
- makes hair feel very soft and shiny and look healthy / rende i capelli soffici, luminosi e sani
- doesn’t make skin breakout / non fa venire i brufoli
- pretty and practical packaging / tubo carino e pratico

What I didn’t like:
- takes a while to absorb / ci mette un pò ad assorbirsi
- not suitable for those with oily skin / non adatto a chi ha la pelle grassa

I love multitasking products so I was really excited when I heard that The Body Shop was launching a new line of beautifying oils that can be used on the face, body and hair. They are available in 11 different scents/variations – Strawberry, Shea, Coconut, Moringa, Cocoa Butter, Sweet Lemon, Mango, Satsuma, Pink Grapefruit, Olive and Chocomania – so that everyone will be able to find one they like. The one I have is Moringa, which has a strong, but not overpowering, white floral scent that hangs around for hours. White florals are not really my thing, but if you like them, you will find this scent very pleasant.

I first tried it on my body. The oil applied smoothly on the skin, but took about 10 minutes to absorb. However, I don’t really mind the extra drying time because it makes my very dry and thirsty skin feel so soft and smooth and keeps it moisturized for the entire day. It also gives a nice sheen to my skin, without making it look greasy. However, it was a different story on my face. I have combination skin and while it worked just as well on my dry cheeks, it took ages to absorb on my oilier areas and made them look a bit too shiny. But at least it didn’t make my skin breakout.

The oil can also be used on dry hair to condition it and give it some shine, but make sure you use only a little bit or it will turn your head into a greasy mess. Personally, I like to use it as an overnight conditioning treatment. I apply it on the length of my hair before going to sleep and then I wash my hair the next morning. Afterwards, my hair feels very soft and shiny and looks so healthy. Yes, it leaves a greasy residue on my pillow, but that’s a very small price to pay for gorgeous and radiant hair.

The oil comes in a pretty, see-through tube with a very small opening so it will only pour out very little product at a time, which is all you need anyway and thus ensures that none gets wasted. A thing I initially disliked was the price. €15,00 was too expensive, in my opinion. But the oil is so versatile and moisturizes my dry skin so well and makes my hair look so good that I think that, overall, it is great value for money. Now I can’t wait to try a new variant, such as Sweet Lemon and Chocomania. Don’t they sound delicious?

Secondo me, €15,00 erano troppi.

Summary
The Body Shop Moringa Beautifying Oil keeps even the driest of skin soft, smooth and moisturized for the entire day. It also gives skin a lovely sheen, which looks great on dry and normal skin, but may make oily skin look a bit too shiny. When used on hair, it makes it look shiny, healthy and beautiful. However, it takes a few minutes to absorb.

    • Vonvon, I love to use oils for my body and hair too and this one is amazing. It works really well for at least 2 out of 3 intended uses so it’s still worth every cent imo. :)

    • Socialite Dreams, I like oils to moisturize my body and this one does such a wonderful job at it. :)

  1. I really like the product but I have enough moisturizers and perfumes. I will keep an eye out on these though! If I really like I scent, I’ll get one.

  2. i tried this when i saw it in local stores, i picked olive to try out, it took about 15 mins for it to get absorb, even then it still felt a little greasy. I hate greasy hands lol. It smells really lovely, and maybe it’ll be great as an overnight treatment for my really dry heels and hair ends, but for overall body and face, i think it’s too heavy already.

and you are so lucky to have so many flavours to choose from! we get only cocoa, coconut, olive, satsuma, shea and strawberry only >.< no fair!

    • Plue, I didn’t find it too heavy but I think it depends on your skin type. It took ages to absorb on the oily areas on my face, but only a few minutes on my dry body skin. I think it’s a good product, but not suitable for everyone. You can always use it on your hair as an overnight conditioning treatment. It works so well for that!

And what a shame you have only a bunch of shades to choose from.

  3. ah you got your hands on it! yay!! lovely review!! it’s so nice to read that it moisturizes the body well, oils are sooo luxurious, I really want to try one one day haha. and you found a good use for it, for the hair, too!! It’s such a pretty bottle, I would try the Coconut scent but the price is aweful!!! I saw it on Greek Lucky magazine that it costs 9.00 euros, how weird. I dislike Body Shop for their prices therefore I stay away from their products lol. my body loofah/sponge from them cost over 2 euros, that is ridiculous haha. -.-

    • Denise, this one is very luxurious and so moisturizing! I agree that their products are quite pricey and 2euros for a sponge is ridiculous! But this oil at least is reasonably priced imo because it is so versatile and moisturizing, so you’re getting your money’s worth. But maybe you can check it out if it goes on sale. :)
