Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.25

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday! Ready for some random ramblings? Let’s get started:

Thank You Hater

This is genius, love it!

What I’m Reading Now

Corinna by Kathleen McGregor. These days I mostly read books on my Kindle, but every now and then I still like to read something from my mother’s library. There aren’t many books on there that I haven’t already read so my choice was limited, but in the end I picked this historical romance. I’m not really too keen on pirate and corsair stories because I just can’t glamorize someone that attacks ships, robs and kills people for a living, even if they have the permission of their governments to do so. But of course in romance stories, the pirates are all good lads that chose that life to be free and kill people only when they have to, and the Spanish are all bad and deserve it anyway (and the Spanish in this one are really, really bad).. Apart from these cliches, I enjoyed most of the book. It tells the story of Corinna, a Scottish noblewoman who is kidnapped by Don Corraya, is set free by a pirate, Dorian, falls in love with him and in time becomes captain of her own ship too. What made me enjoy the story is that it is really well-written, which is rarely the case with romance novels, but sadly the author doesn’t know when to stop. The book is more than 500 pages long and towards the end gets repetitive and boring.. Overall, I’d only recommend it to those who love pirate stories.

Sunday Survey, Vol.105

1. What is your favourite non alcoholic drink?
Water.. I know it’s boring, but it’s so refreshing and good for you.

2. Do you use body oils?
I prefer rich body butters, but I use oils sometimes too. At the moment I’m testing The Beauty Shop Moringa Beautifying Oil and it seems to do a good job, although I’m not sure I like how it smells..

3. Do you have a TV in your bedroom?
Yes, but I never watch it lol.

4. Pinterest or Twitter?
I haven’t jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon yet (although I love to look at what others have pinned), so I’ll go with Twitter. It’s simple and a great source of information, and less time-consuming, which is very important for me as the older I get, the busier I get and don’t have as much time as I’d like to spend on social media websites.

5. What do you think of Urban Decay entering the Chinese market?
I don’t avoid brands that test on animals, mainly because the issue is very complicated and not as black and white as people think and when companies do it it’s because the law requires it (in fact, those that don’t use ingredients already tested by others), so their decision doesn’t affect me. I do appreciate they took the time to explain their reasons for entering the Chinese markets to people, even though a lot of their answers are quite vague. Let’s face it, China is a big market and large companies won’t be able to ignore it for long, but at least they’re going there with the right attitude and will hopefully help to change things from within.

    Thanks for the shout-out, Gio!

    1. What is your favourite non alcoholic drink? Anything carbonated. I think my favorite is carbonated lemonade.

    2. Do you use body oils? Nope!

    3. Do you have a TV in your bedroom? No. And not because I don’t have the ability. I just feel that a bedroom is meant for sleeping. And I once read that having something like that in there could prevent you from sleeping well.

    4. Pinterest or Twitter? I suck at using both. But I guess Pinterest because it has worth for me besides the social aspect. While, without the social aspect, Twitter is useless.

    5. What do you think of Urban Decay entering the Chinese market? It’s a bummer since they were always animal-friendly and now they can’t say that. But otherwise I really don’t care.

      Trisha, you’re welcome. :)

You make a good point about Pinterest. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m afraid I’ll end up spending way too much on it but maybe I should..

Marina, I’m thinking of getting rid of my tv too as I never watch it. I prefer to catch up with my fave tv shows online.

    Such a cute video!
The effects of sun exposure is scary!

    1. water or white milk!
    2. Nope! I’ve used Neutrogena’s body oil before it’s sesame or some flavor of that sort. It just helps lock in moisture supposedly. It smells good and that’s all I’m sure of.
    3. No TV, just my laptop. :D
    4. I don’t use either but I’ll pick Pinterest because I’d rather see pictures than read word fragments (since I don’t stay updated).
    5. I think it makes them seem very animal-conscientious but I don’t care so much of the fact they’re going to expand their market. Though good for them and I hope they do make positive influences.

Janessa, they are scary indeed! Makes you wanna pile up the sunscreen, doesn’t it?

That’s a good point about Pinterest. Not you mention it, I think more people would prefer looking at photos than reading short tweets, especially if they’re not on either network :)

  3. Viv says

    1. What is your favourite non alcoholic drink?
Diet Coke – and yes, I CAN tell the difference with other colas!
    2. Do you use body oils?
I’ve got The Body Shop Olive Beautifying Oil, and I LOVE it – possibly even more than my body butters!
    3. Do you have a TV in your bedroom?
No. None of the kids do either – we have one computer and one TV, both in a room that we can keep an eye on what’s on. And I’m so tired when I go to bed I’d go to sleep if I tried to watch tv!!
    4. Pinterest or Twitter?
Not so keen on either really.
    5. What do you think of Urban Decay entering the Chinese market?
Well I think it’s pretty inevitable, and I’m sure they won’t be the last. As you say, at least they went about it all in a completely open and honest fashion. Won’t stop me buying Urban Decay if there’s something I really want.

Viv, I’m a huge fan of TBS body butters and if the Olive Beautifying Oil is even better, then I’m curious to try it. I have the Moringa one, which is really nice and makes my skin so soft, but I don’t love it as much as the butters.
