Sunday Random Rambling, Vol.23

Hello everyone,

and happy Sunday! Sit back, relax and enjoy my random ramblings! :)

Tenerezze Limone

Tenerezze Limone by Mulino Bianco are some of my favourite biscuits ever. They are pastry biscuits with lemon flavouring filling and are absolutely scrumptious. I love that you can taste the lemon in the cookies and the flavour is enhanced when you eat them with tea. The only problem is that they are so delicious it is so hard to stop eating them once you tear open the packaging. I always tell myself I’m only gonna have a couple, but before I know it I’ve eaten four or five… which is why I try not to buy them too often hehe. What about you? Do you like lemon cookies?

What I’m Reading Now

Queens Consort: England’s Medieval Queens by Lisa Hilton. As my regular readers know I’m also a history geek and I’m particularly fascinated by the history of women. This books tells the story of England’s Medieval Queens, from the first Queen of England, Matilda of Flanders, married to William The Conqueror, to Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII’s mother. I really enjoyed the fact that the author covers the life of each Queen in a concise yet throughout way and dedicates to each of them the space they deserve, instead than concentrating on the most famous ones such as Eleanor of Aquitaine and neglecting the others. Also, Hilton portrays them all fairly, setting the record straight on rumours that still haunt them. It was also surprising to discover that Medieval Queens were actually more powerful than we believe nowadays, enjoying a wider degree of power and influence than Queens would in the Tudor period and onwards. Even though the book is a fascinating read, the writing style is a bit dull and boring in places, which is why I would only recommend it to history buffs that are interested in learning more about Medieval Queens Consort and how the role of Queen evolved during the centuries.

Sunday Survey, Vol.103

1. Do you read blogs on your phone?
Nope, I have a very old Nokia phone that only allows me to call and send texts, which is fine with me because I don’t need it to do anything more really. I’m not sure I’d read blogs on a phone even if I could though. I just like to surf the ‘net on my computer at home as the screen is bigger and I can enjoy the entire site, layout, widgets and all. I understand though that if you’re out of the house all day, being able to surf the net on a phone would be very handy.

2. Do you wear less makeup in summer?
Yes, I usually skip the foundation and use only concealer when needed. I may use a tinted moisturizer too at times but it’s rare. I also do simpler eye looks.

3. What cleanser are you using at the moment?
Dermolab Cleansing Creamy Milk Gentle Touch. It gently but effectively removes all traces of dirt and makeup and leaves skin feeling soft. I will write a review soon. :)

4. Sheer or opaque glosses?
Opaque or semi-opaque. I want at least a hint of colour to show up on my lips, otherwise what’s the point of using it?

5. What do you think of matching your makeup to your outfit?
I think it’s really fun and do it all the time! :)

    1. Do you read blogs on your phone?
Usually, no. I haven’t found a good way to read my google reader on either my phone or my ipad. Sometimes I’ll go to blogs from my phone because I want to buy a product someone recommended but can’t remember the exact product name!

    2. Do you wear less makeup in summer?
I used to wear more – for example, I would try to use high coverage, water resistant foundation. This summer, I have been going the other way, wearing a very light application of foundation.

    3. What cleanser are you using at the moment?
For makeup remover, I like to use oil based products. I think many people in Japan prefer using oil based makeup remover. For facial cleanser, I’m using a Lush soap.

    4. Sheer or opaque glosses?
I don’t really like lip glosses. In fact, I’ve lost the last 3 tubes that I bought, and I currently only one tube. One tube in my entire collection!! And I’m supposed to be a beauty blogger!

    5. What do you think of matching your makeup to your outfit?
If you think it works, go for it! There are no rules to makeup, as long as you keep it hygienic!

K, I used to do the same and wear more makeup such as waterproof foundation during summer too, but these past couple of years I’ve gone the other way and I much prefer it. My skin looks better and I don’t have to worry about everything melting lol.

And I so agree that there aren’t any rules to makeup. Just have fun safely!

    1. Do you read blogs on your phone? Yeah sometimes I do, just to make the time pass faster while I’m in the subway :)
    2. Do you wear less makeup in summer? This winter I haven’t been wearing makeup at all (on very rare occasions) but in the summer I try to avoid wearing foundation as much as possible. :)
    3. What cleanser are you using at the moment? For makeup remover I use Micellar Lotion from Vichy, Amway removing gel and I’m also testing Clinique Take the day off makeup remover for lids, lashes & lips and also Shu Uemura for those days when I wear full makeup :)
    4. Sheer or opaque glosses? Sheer usually…oh no…actually semi-sheer :)
    5. What do you think of matching your makeup to your outfit? I think it’s OK but I don’t always have the time to do it, so I try to keep my makeup as simple as possible

Tavia, I’m with you re no foundation in summer. I used to wear it in the past but since I’ve starting using concealer only when needed, my skin feels better. :)

And can’t wait to read your review on the Clinique makeup remover as I’d been eyeing it lately. :)

And your DIY makeup remover intrigues me. I think I’ll try to make it too.

    Lemon cookies sound yummy!

    1. My phone is just a simple phone. So, no.

    2. Less base makeup. But more and brighter eye makeup. These past week, I only apply sunscreen with color- correcting effect by Laneige with SPF 40, then set with MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder. Not even any of my BB Cream.
    It’s been so hot!

    3. Clinique Liquid Face Soap

    4. Both, depends.

    5. I like the idea an sometimes I do that.

Vonvon, less base makeup is the definitely the way to go when it’s hot. I tend to do simple but colorful eye makeup looks too. Bright shades are just perfect for summer. :)

I want to try those biscuits! Haha I am starting to write down European things I want and I might just find it on Amazon or somewhere online.
I love medieval stories. And people who read more are smarter!
    1. Nope! A computer is much easier to read and navigate and reply through.
    2. I don’t wear much makeup on a daily basis and I just wear makeup when I feel like it. However, I do gravitate towards a lip stain or blotted lipstick for some color rather than liner, lipstick, gloss and lighter colors. So my answer: not really.
    3. I can’t wait for your review! I’m currently using Philophy’s Purity and Softymo cleansing oil (just bought a few days ago) because I have to use products that remove my stubborn sunscreen.
    4. Same as you! Semi-opaque to opaque.
    5. I really like it and makeup and fashion are interrelated IMO.

    • beautifulwithbrains says

Janessa, I hope you can get them, they are scrumptious!

I agree with you re reading blogs on a computer. I can see how reading them on your phone can be handy sometimes like when you travel or spend very little time at home, but reading them on your computer is so much easier!

Marina, I’d rather listen to something, like music, when I’m not at home too. Reading blogs on phone has always seemed unpractical to me.

  7. Viv says

    1. Do you read blogs on your phone?
No. My phone’s not up to it :) It’s very basic, just an emergency use one really.
    2. Do you wear less makeup in summer?
Not really – I quite often don’t wear makeup at weekends/evenings at all times of the year – I mainly wear makeup for work/going out, and probably don’t vary it that much in the winter.
    3. What cleanser are you using at the moment?
The MOST gorgeous Clarins cleanser – the Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. It is the best thing I’ve ever found. I was given it as a ‘freebie’ when I bought a couple of items in the local Boots store. I think I was lucky/honoured, as it’s a full-size product, and the girl gave it to me as we’d had a nice chat – all about how my daughter was being followed all around the store as she browsed because they thought she was shop-lifting – she looked ‘different’ with her Doc Martens and her leopard skin leggings, but is no more likely to steal than to fly!! She heard one assistant actually tell another to ‘keep an eye on HER’ as she moved between counters!!
    4. Sheer or opaque glosses?
Not really keen on glosses at all at the moment. I will probably change my mind if we ever get any really nice weather here this summer!
    5. What do you think of matching your makeup to your outfit?
Nice, but I don’t do it (again, too lazy :) :))

Viv, I hate it when people are judged based on the way they look. I feel sorry for your daughter. She must have felt very uneasy after hearing such a comment, how rude! But at least you got something out of it. The cleanser sounds great. I think I will ask for a sample next time I go to a Clarins counter.
