Product Review: Senna Sketch A Brow Pencil

Name: Sketch A Brow
Brand: Senna Cosmetics
Size: 0.09gr
Price: $18.00

From Senna’s website:
A fine and firm brow pencil gives ultra natural definition to create faux brow hairs, fill in sparse areas and boost brow arches with smudge proof and long lasting color. Complete with a never sharpen retractable tip and blending comb.

What I liked:
– pencil is sturdy and doesn’t break off easily
– has a fine point making it easy to draw small strokes
– buildable pigmentation
– fills in brows and makes them look defined and very natural
– comes with a comb to tame stray hair

What I didnā€™t like:
– starts to fade after a few hours
– the price

It doesn’t really matter how great your skin is or how well you apply your makeup, if your eyebrows are unruly and badly-shaped, they will ruin your look. The easiest and quickest way to groom and fill in brows is by using brow pencils, but they can also often look unnatural. That’s not the case with Senna Sketch A Brow Pencil. Available in four shades – Blonde, Light Taupe, Dark Taupe and Mink – it comes with a small comb, which you can use to comb your eyebrows after sketching the color into your them.

The shade I have is Dark Taupe, which is a dark shade of brown with buildable pigmentation. It applies lightly but can be built up if you need a more intense color. This, paired with the fact that the pencil has a very fine and thin point, which allows you to make small strokes and thus create faux hair very easily, makes your eyebrows look defined and natural.

The pencil is retractable so there’s no need to sharpen it, and also quite sturdy so it doesn’t break off easily. I’m pretty clumsy and so, when pencils are too soft, it often happens that they break off when I try to use them. But with this pencil, that didn’t happen. Not even once.

On me, the pencil starts to slowly fade after about 5 hours of wear, but by the time I come back home a couple of hours later, most of the color is still there, only lighter. Unless I go out again in the evening, I don’t find it necessary to reapply it, but it’s still something to consider as the pencil is quite pricey. You can always set it with a powder or clear brow gel to make it last longer though.

Available at:

Senna Sketch A Brow Pencil has buildable pigmentation and a thin point that allows you to easily create faux hair. The result is defined and natural-looking brows in just a couple of minutes. The retractable pencil, which comes with a small comb to tame unruly hair, is also sturdy and doesn’t break off easily, but starts to fade after about 5 hours. And it is quite price too.

At IMATS (3 yrs ago?), Senna was passing out samples of their foundations, full-size lip pencils, and eyeliners. I wasn’t impressed at all with their products and their lipliners and eye pencils are very hard and tug on the skin. Maybe there’s been reformulation, but that’s one of the first brands I actually had zero interest in. Their foundation also smelled weird. Until there’s a product rave from them, I won’t be looking into their brand. Besides, there’s a million other products to try! šŸ˜€

Janessa, I tried their lip liners too and they were only average and overpriced. I haven’t tried their eyeliners instead, but I love their brow products and their Pearl Glow Lip Lacquers. They are sticky but so longlasting. The blushes are lovely too. I guess, just like any other brands, they do have their gems and their average products. :)

Janessa, aww thanks. My boyfriend took them. He’s a budding photographer and takes most of the pictures for this blog. He also taught me a lot about photography. I don’t know what I’d do without him. :)

Makeup Morsels, haha, what a coincidence! I will go and check out your review now. :) Dark taupe is a great match for my brows and I love how nice it makes them look.

Thanks. My boyfriend took them. He will be glad to know you like them. :)
