Name: Icelandic Formula Cleanser & Toner
Brand: Blue Lagoon
Size: 200ml
Price: €30

From Blue Lagoon’s website:
Dual action cleanser & toner, specially developed for sensitive skin. Cleanses, nourishes and revitalizes. Contains essential Blue Lagoon trace elements and Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater. Suits all skin types, even the most sensitive ones.

What I liked:
- removes dirt, oil and other impurities well
- gentle, doesn’t irritate skin
- gives a refreshing feeling to skin
- leaves skin soft
- the packaging

What I didn’t like:
- doesn’t do much as a toner
- the price

Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most famous and popular attractions. Guests can enjoy a relaxing, warm bath in the geothermal seawater, surrounded by snow and ice, which makes the landscape so eerie and surreal and the experience unforgettable. Moreover, this geothermal seawater is very alkaline and full of silica and minerals that are said to be good for the skin. For those of us who can’t go there, Blue Lagoon Iceland has created a skincare line that captures the energy and goodness of the Lagoon.

Thanks to Mr BWB, who actually went to Iceland last February and bathed in the Blue Lagoon (lucky him!), I had the chance to try their Cleanser & Toner. It comes packaged in a simple but sleek and elegant bottle that reflects the contrasting colors of the lagoon. It has a pump dispenser which is hygienic and doesn’t release too much product. I find two pumps are necessary for the entire face. The instructions on the bottle say to rinse it off with a cotton pad, while the website says it is not necessarily to rinse it off. Confusing, huh?

Personally, I always rinse it off in the morning when I use it as a cleanser, while at night, when I use it as a toner, I don’t find it necessary to do so. Blue Lagoon Icelandic Formula Cleanser and Toner is a very gentle and delicate cleanser that is suitable even for those with sensitive skin. It effectively removes dirt, excess oil and other impurities without irritating skin, but it is not strong enough to take makeup off, which is why I use it only in the mornings.

Although I didn’t see any improvements in how my skin looks and feels when I use it as a toner, it is also true that toners never seem to do anything for my skin. Blue Lagoon Icelandic Formula Cleanser and Toner, though, gives my skin a pleasant refreshing feeling, which I like. It is also makes my skin soft. However, I much prefer to use it as a cleanser. At €30,00 it is a very expensive one, though. It’s definitely not a must have, but it’s a nice indulgence, especially for people with sensitive skin.

Ingredients:
water/aqua, glycerin, PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, pentylene glycol, sea water/maris aqua (Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater), PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, sodium PCA, methyl gluceth-20, chlorhexidine digluconate, algae extract (Blue Lagoon algae), octyldodecanol, creatine, chamomilla recutita flower extract, maltodextrin, sodium lactate, lactic acid, serine, urea, sorbitol, sodium chloride, allantoin, sodium gluconate, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate.

Summary
Blue Lagoon Icelandic Formula Cleanser & Toner is packaged in a simple, pretty and hygienic bottle with a pump dispenser. As a cleanser, it effectively removes dirt and excess oil (but not makeup) without irritating skin, making it suitable even for those with sensitive skin. As a toner, it provides a refreshing feeling to skin and makes it soft. However, it is expensive.

Rating: 3.5/5

I’ve been to the Blue Lagoon spa and it’s amazing! Me and my dad got some treatments there too, we blissed out floating in thermal water while getting scrubbed and pummelled by these two large Icelandic women.

I bought some skincare products from BL too but I wasn’t that impressed with them. The facial scrub was rubbish actually which was surprising.

Annabella, I’m jealous. It must have been so relaxing and lovely! :)

I’m sorry you didn’t like their products and what a shame the scrub is so bad! I’m glad I didn’t get that one then. :) I like this cleanser and toner. It’s expensive but it works. :)

I definitely like the name and the spray bottle! Too bad it’s not phenomenal enough for me to consider purchasing at that price. I like a cleanser that can take off my makeup and I already have other cleansers that I like to use for mild, non-makeup-removing purposes. What a beautiful picture of the Blue Lagoon! I’d love to go there someday, even if it’s just to see! I appreciate you listing the ingredients. :]

Janessa, I wish it removed makeup for the price too. It’s quite expensive but I think it’s a nice treat for people with sensitive skin as it is very gentle.

The lagoon is beautiful, isn’t it? I’d love to go there too one day. :)

Reading these comments makes me feel so bad, being an Icelander that has never been to the Blue Lagoon…
