Venezia by Laura Biagiotti, an oriental fruity floral blend, was a very popular and loved fragrance in the 90′s. It was practically everywhere. Then, for some unknown reason, the brand decided to discontinue it, depriving many women of their signature scent. Don’t you just hate it when that happens? But then last year, Venetia was finally relaunched. I don’t really remember what the old version smelled liked exactly, only that it was very pleasant (I wasn’t very interested in fragrances back then), so I was delighted to have the chance to try Venetia now.
Venetia is a fruity floral, deep and sensual scent. It opens with spicy black currant mixed with jasmine and a touch of plum. The plum is not too sweet, while the black currant gives a certain bitterness to the scent which I really enjoy, but may put some people off. Soon, the fruity notes disappear, while the jasmine hangs around. The jasmine used here is neither powdery nor cloying but feels very uplifting instead. It is blended with roses which sweeten the scent. The drydown is a nice combination of sweet vanilla and sandalwood.
Overall, Venezia is a deep and rich, but never overpowering, scent that becomes sweeter and more balanced as it progresses. It could almost be an unisex scent, but not quite. The jasmine note smells lovely and I like the slight bitterness of the opening, but unfortunately most of the notes smell synthetic. That’s really disappointing, although the scent is still quite pleasant. But I just expected more, you know? Venetia is more suitable for chilly winter days and I think it would appeal more to adult women than teenagers. Staying power and sillage are pretty good. A couple of spritzes in the morning are all you need for the entire day.

Summary
Laura Biagiotti Venezia Fragrance is a fruity floral scent with a rich, deep and bitter opening that becomes sweeter and more balanced as the fragrance progresses. The blend of notes is interesting, but sadly a lot of them smell synthetic. Staying power is good and the bottle, inspired by Venice and its monuments, is very pretty.
