Name: Lipstick Classic in LC101
Brand: Kryolan
Size: 4g
Price: €12.80

From Kryolan’s website:
Lipstick with a long-proven formulation, including Vitamin E to stimulate the skin’s repair mechanism. Lipstick Classic produces a matt impression and is known for its good durability. This Lip Rouge is available in a wide range of more than 48 shades.

What I liked:
- pigmented
- creamy texture, glides on easily
- doesn’t dry lips
- longlasting

What I didn’t like:
- the scent
- the packaging looks boring

Kryolan is a German brand that specialises in professional make-up for theatre, film, and television, but also have a wide range of products that everyone can use. Their products, which come in boring but practical packaging that bears their logo of a theatrical mask, are designed to withstand the heat of lights and performance and provide excellent color payoff. So I was very excited when I got the chance to try their Lipstick Classic in LC101. Does it live to up to its claims?

Kryolan Lipstick Classic in LC101 is a bright red shade with orange undertones and a slightly shiny, almost matte finish. Although it is bold and bright, it is also wearable and would suit even fair-skinned beauties. It can be easily worn during the day too, as long as you keep the rest of your makeup natural. The lipstick is also very pigmented and you only need very little for each application.

Because the shade is bold, you need to be very careful when you apply it. I recommend you use a lip brush as it will allow you a more precise application and give you better control (please excuse the bad application in the photo above, but I had already swatched quite a few lippies that day which took its toll on my lips). The texture is creamy and glides on easily. It doesn’t dry lips but I don’t find it particularly moisturizing either so I like to apply a thin layer of lip balm underneath.

The lipstick also has great staying power. It lasts about 5 hours on me if I don’t eat or drink. And even after a meal, the color doesn’t completely disappears but fades into a nice, natural stain. The only thing I dislike about the lipstick is its strong wax scent, but luckily it doesn’t hang around long.

Summary
Kryolan Lipstick Classic in LC101 is a bright, yet wearable red shade with orange undertones. Very pigmented, it has a creamy texture that glides easily on the lips and doesn’t dry them out, but doesn’t moisturize them either. It lasts longs on the lips before fading to a nice stain, but the powdery scent can put some people off.

Rating: 4/5

Vonnie, yeah, the scent isn’t nice at all but at least it doesn’t hang around long. And the staying power is really impressive.

It’s a very pretty colour! I do like Kryolan products in general – their packaging is boring, but then they are designed for professional makeup artists rather than consumers like us!

Jamilla, that’s true. I still wish the packaging was prettier, but I can forgive them that as their products work so well.

I like the idea of this being suitable for warm environments, like under lights. I should looking into getting some stage makeup…

Trisha, it’s very pigmented and longlasting and would work well on a stage or similar environments indeed. :)

Great review. I’m pretty sensitive when it comes to products with some kind of scent. I remember buying a Manly Palette from eBay and it smelled like an old grandma… Not very nice at all and I hardly use it just because of that.

EyeGraffiti, that kind of scent can be very offputting, can’t it? I can’t really stand lip products with strong, waxy scents either but I’ll put with this one because luckily it doesn’t last that long and the quality of the lipstick is really good.

Hey I’m looking for a clear lip gloss that I can use on its own. The various clear lip glosses etc. I’ve tried haven’t had the staying power a regular gloss would – and fair enough. Any recommendations for products?

Thanks!!!

Gauri, MAC makes a nice clear gloss. Bare Escentuals Buxom Lip Gloss in Krystal is another good option. They’re pricey but the drugstore clear glosses that I’ve tried don’t have great staying power. Hope this helps.

Very bright! I’m really not sure that I could pull that off though – anything that red makes me self-conscious, lol, and my dear daughter tells me I’ll frighten the animals if I go out like that. (Kids – gotta love ‘em!)

Viv, lol. Although bright, it’s a more wearable shade that it seems. But I can see why it would make you feel self-conscious. I used to feel the same too, but then I started wearing sheer red glosses and slowly I got more and more comfortable wearing red lip shades.
