Voyage D’Hermes promises to take you on a journey into the unknown. An unisex, musky woody fragrance, it is said to “not smell of a kind of wood, a flower, a particular raw material, but of the unknown in all its glory”. I usually love this kind of fragrances, and the theme is quite intriguing too, yet, when I spritzed it on, I was left disappointed. I was expecting something unique, instead I was taken on a trip I had already been on before, only with a very bad beginning.

The fragrance opens with a sparkling citrusy note that is soon overpowered by the pungent smell of black pepper, which is present in a very generous dose. This is a note I really dislike, mainly because it always seems to smell horribly on me, and so it prevented me from enjoying this scent. There is also a hint green note in the opening minutes, but I couldn’t detect what it is. Still, I couldn’t wait for the first part of the fragrance to be over. After a while, the black pepper finally disappears.

The musky-woody accord, with a burst of cardamom, takes center stage. The fragrance is at this stage quite strong and dry, yet fresh. Finally, the drydown is a blend of delicate and green violet and softer woody, cashmere notes. This is the part of the fragrance I enjoyed the most. It’s lighter, fresher and more feminine. Altough Vojage D’Hermes is a truly unisex fragrance that can be worn by everyone, I think the first two stages will appeal to and suit mostly men.

The staying power is good. It lasts almost all day and I was already home by the time it began to fade so I didn’t have to reapply it. Overall, it’s a nice fragrance, just not original. What’s innovative, though, is the bottle. It’s a retractable glass bottle that opens out at the touch of a finger and is designed to turn on itself without going around. And it is refillable too!

Summary
Hermes Voyage D’Hermes is a nice but unoriginal woody musky fragrance with a very generous note of black pepper at the very beginning. Until the drydown, this fresh scent is quite strong and dry, which I think will appeal more to men, but will suit women too. Staying power is good and the bottle is innovative. However, it is very expensive.

Rating: 3.5/5

I’m always slightly disappointed when fragrance descriptions make them sound like the most original thing ever, and then they turn out to be something I’ve already smelled many times.

The drydown sounds gorgeous, and the bottle is beautiful though!

Makeup Morsels, I hate that too, it’s very disappointing. I hope my reviews don’t give you guys the wrong impression. I try to be as objective as possible, but with fragrances, because they’re such a personal thing, it’s not always easy. :)

The drydown is beautiful indeed! Shame the rest of the fragrance wasn’t as good..
