Name: Chocolate Masque
Brand: Montagne Jeunesse
Size: 20g
Price: $1.99

From Montagne Jeunesse website:
Indulge in our guilt free natural treat of creamy delights with our Chocolate Masque. We’ve blended Fairly Traded Cocoa Butter from the sunny islands of the Dominican, with crushed Cocoa and ultra-moisturising Shea to leave skin silky soft and deeply cleansed.

What I liked:
- thick consistency, applies and spreads easily
- moisturizing, leaves skin soft, smooth and clean
- has a subtle brightening effect
- helps absorb excess oil
- the chocolate scent
- the price

What I didn’t like:
- messy to apply and remove
- the packaging

I have to admit that I’m pretty lazy when it comes to face masks and so I don’t use them as often as I should  , but there is a mask that I never get tired of using: Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Masque. I first got it in a swap and loved it so much that I keep repurchasing it. It is just a wonderful and scrumptious little treat for skin. To start with, the scent is so delicious! It smells like chocolate, but it is not overpowering nor cloying. It is just yummy and you will have to exercise all of your will power not to eat it.

The mask is brown in color, just like chocolate, and its consistency is quite thick which I like as it doesn’t drip down your face when you apply it. Yet, it spreads easily on the skin. You just have to remember to keep your hair away from your face when you slather it on or it’ll be a pain to rinse it out. Once applied, you just need to wait for about 10-15 minutes for the mask to dry before you can rinse it off with water. Now, that can be quite messy and it will take you a little while to remove it completely, but the results are worthy it.

The mask contains Kaolin and Illite, which are two types of clay that can absorb excess oil and Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter, which have moisturizing properties. As a result, the mask left my t-zone oil-free for a few good hours but it didn’t dry my skin at all. Instead, it left it soft, smooth and clean. I also noticed a really subtle brightening effect. It also didn’t irritate my skin at all. Overall, I was so pleased with the results that I don’t really mind it being a bit messy to use. To me, the real con is the packaging.

The mask comes in a sachet which has a perforated part in one of the top corners, which makes it very easy to tear open. It also contains a lot of product that will last for two or three times and that’s the problem. While I like being able to use the mask a few times, the packaging is not resealable. And you would need to seal it well if you wanna use it again, especially as it doesn’t contain preservatives so it’ll go bad quicker. You’ll either have to make sure the sachet is sealed really well or just throw away the excess product which is a big waste. Because of this, I’d prefer if this mask came in a tube which would be more hygienic.

Available at: Boots, Montagne Jeunesse, Superdrug and Ulta

Summary
Montagne Jeunesse Chocolate Masque looks and smells just like chocolate. It leaves skin soft, smooth and clean, brightens it up a little and absorbs excess oil. However, it’s messy to use and remove and the sachet packaging, which is easy to open and contains enough product for three uses, is not resealable.

Rating: 4/5

Perhaps, you can keep the remaining product in the fridge and use it within the next few days. Will it harden the masque?

It sounds very yummy indeed.

Another alternative to such cream masque, is those sheet masks. I use them all the time, sometimes, as frequent as every other night. Just slap it on for like 30 mins and relax, remove and apply night cream, and go to bed. I am kinda lazy too to use rinse off masks.

Vonvon, I haven’t tried that yet, but I will next time I use it and let you know if that works. Thanks for the suggestion.

It is very yummy indeed. It’s really hard to resist the temptation to eat but we must lol.

Sheet masks sound great too. I don’t mind rinse off masks but this one needs a few minutes to be completely removed. A sheet mask would be a nice alternative.

I’m glad you enjoy it and you can purchase it again :) Maybe you should scoop the remaining product out and put it in a small jar for the next times. I know the packaging is a huge pain and I hope they’ll come with the tube version soon.

Dao, thank you for the mask.I haven’t seen this one here yet but I can get it online so it’s ok. That would be a great idea and a nice way not to let the excess product go to waste. I like that it contains so much product, but just because of that, the company should put it in a tube instead than a sachet.

My daughter and I both love this – and we have on order a couple of the new Hot Chocolate ones – how strange that you should review this at the same time! Love the look of the new ones – especially the whitening one lol!

This is one of my favourite face masks, great for when you are on a diet and can’t eat real chocolate you can just sniff yourself instead!
