DIY Beauty: How To Make Your Own Tinted Brow Gel

Tinted brow gels help your brow hair stay in place and enhance your natural color. Most tinted brow gels, though, are quite expensive or too pigmented and make your brows look so unnatural. If you’re on a budget, or don’t use tinted brow gels so often to justify buying one, why not try to make your own? It’s really easy. All you need is a clear mascara and some eyeshadow.

What you need

Get a clear mascara (any will do) and an eyeshadow that matches the color of your brows. For more natural results, it’s best to use matte eyeshadows. Slightly shimmery ones may work too but don’t use anything too frosty. In addition, unless you have red hair, stay clear of eyeshadows with red undertones or you risk having unnaturally-looking brows.

How to make your own tinted brow gel

Now that we have everything, we can start making our own tinted brow gel. Smash the eyeshadow into lots of tiny little pieces (or just use a loose one). Using the wand, add a little eyeshadow at a time into the clear mascara tube (if you only want to make enough for one application you can mix a bit of mascara and eyeshadow on the back of your hand instead) and mix well. Repeat until you get the desired shade and apply it to your brows.

Have you ever made your own brow tinted gel?

Dao, I find that clear mascaras work so well as brow gels. And if you ever need a tinted one, you just have to add a little bit of eyeshadow and voila, your own is ready. :)

Vonnie, this is a great and inexpensive way to tint your brow when you’re dying your hair. I can’t wait to see your new hair color. :)

I made My own brow gel with a new tube of Cover Girl mascara that’s clear mixed with a bit of MAC eyeshadow in the color “bark”, and I’m utterly thrilled it worked! I told my husband I just saved him twenty bucks! The shade gel I created is exactly the same as the discontinued (grrr-still mad a Maybelline for this) twin brow/eye pencils (the red ones that have been around forever) in charcoal grey, which was the greatest color ever.
Thank you so much for posting the instructions. I’m so happy with it!

Mrs Sternberg, it’s really annoying when companies discontinue our favourite products but I’m glad you managed to make a dupe for it. That’s great. And I’m sure your husband is really happy about the money saved too.
      You’re welcome. :)
