Name: Bright Crystal
Brand: Versace
Size: 1.7oz
Price: $67.00
What I liked:
- fresh floral scent
- not overpowering
What I didn’t like:
- not very original
- doesn’t last long
- the packaging
The last time I was shopping at my local beauty store, a SA offered me a sample of Versace Bright Crystal to try. Being a fan of its sister Crystal Noir (it’s actually one of my favourite perfumes), I was both curious and hesitant to give it a sniff. You see, Crystal Noir is a gorgeous, warm and sensual oriental blend with a floral touch which is just the kind of scent I love while Bright Crystal is a floral scent and I rarely enjoy those. They tend to be too sweet and are so unoriginal! Maybe it’s because the market is saturated with them at the moment, but they all smell pretty much the same to me.
Well, Bright Crystal is not very original either and you won’t probably have any problems finding a good dupe for it but I was pleasantly surprised to discover it’s not overly sweet. It’s flowery but fresh and light. It opens with notes of Pomegranade and Yuzu, a citrus fruit believed to be a hybrid of sour mandarin and Ichang papeda, which feels vibrant and uplifting. The heart of the fragrance is a flowery explosion of Magnolia and Peony that’s sweet but not nauseatingly so. The drydown is warm with notes of musk and amber.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Bright Crystal but I really did. The citrus notes at the beginning feel fresh while the base notes rich, warm and sensual, cutting the sweetness of the fragrance. Unlike many floral scents targeted mainly at teenagers, Bright Crystals would suit even grown-up women, making them feel both confident and feminine. Unfortunately, it doesn’t last long so be prepared to reapply it a couple of times throughout the day. Another thing I don’t like is the packaging: I love the pink color but the cap is just too big and makes the bottle look somewhat tacky.
Available at: Sephora, Amazon and Walgreens
Summary
I’m not a fan of floral fragrances but I really enjoyed Versace Bright Crystal. The sweet floral heart is softened by the fresh citrus notes at the beginning and the warm amber and musk notes in the daydrown. The result is a vibrant, sensual and sweet scent that can be worn in any occasion. However it’s not very original and this, coupled with the the short staying power, has brought the rating down a bit.

Sounds interesting, I’ll try this one and Crystal Noir. I agree about the packaging, that big crystal looks like a cheap toy.
La Bisbetica, they are both wonderful scents. But I don’t know what they were thinking when they chose that cap, it’s so huge and cheap!
I have a full sized bottle of this and I love it! I agree on the staying power thing though…..doesn’t last very long.
Harshleen´s last [type] ..MAC “O” Lipstick – Shimmery goodness for fall!
Harshleen, it’s a shame it doesn’t last that long, does it? The scent is just so lovely.
I’m not crazy about the cap either, especially since it clashes so much with the bottom half of the packaging!
I’m surprised to hear that you like this, since you seem to like florientals more, right? Good to know though, I’ll definitely give this a sniff next time I see it.
Makeup Morsels´s last [type] ..Makeup Morsels Best Of Summer ’11
Makeup Morsels, I was surprised at that too. But it smells lovely and I really like how the notes change as the fragrance progresses.
have never tried versace perfume, but i’d like to sniff this since i am a fan of floral
bummer for the short staying power, but most perfumes don’t last very long on me anyway

xin´s last [type] ..Your Say: Do You Wear High Heels?
Xin, I really like Versace scents, they make some wonderful ones that are very feminine. I do wish it lasted longer though.
I really like this fragrance, but I tend to like pink-colored scents even though they all smell similar. I have a small sample of it as well, but don’t really wear it. I agree that the packaging isn’t very pretty.
Tammy´s last [type] ..I’m Glamoured by Tarte for True Blood Natural Cheek Stain
Tammy, I’m glad you like this fragrance too. It’s lovely, isn’t it? And they should really do something about the packaging. The bottom is cute but that cap…. way too big!
