Blogs We Love: Writing Women’s History

by beautifulwithbrains on August 6, 2011

in blogs we love

It’s no secret that I’m a huge history geek but one thing that bothers me about history is that it is mostly about men, their deeds, their battles, their personalities… What about women? The history of women is often marginalized when not completely ignored. But wait, what’s to be said about women, I hear you ask? Didn’t women stay at home to take care of their husbands and children and nothing else? Not really. It is true that women had fewer options, but this doesn’t mean that all of them very happy to just be housewives. History is full of strong-willed, independent women who dared to defy the rules of society and live the life they chose.

Some fought for women to have rights, some became brilliant scientists or writers, some got stuck in politics and then there are also those who weren’t so lucky and lived a life of poverty and crime. All too often these women are only a brief mention in a book about the men in their lives so it’s great to have a blog dedicated to them. If you wanna know about the history of women, check out  Writing Women’s History. The blog is not updated often but every post is worth reading and written in a very engaging way. Go visit it now!

I love you for featuring blogs like these, outside the beauty-world-spectrum or whatever you might call it.
Wonderful.

Ana, I’m so glad you like it. I was worried people wouldn’t be interested in blogs that aren’t beauty related so it’s nice to know that’s not the case. :)

How not to be drawn in?
The craftsmanship is amazing, but the story behind it even more so.

Eight, you’re welcome. And yay! Another history lover! It’s too bad women’s history has been neglected so long but luckily we have blogs to fill up that void. :)

Makeup Morsels, I’m so glad to hear that. I read a lot of history blogs but I’m always scared to recommend them because a lot of people seem to find history boring when it isn’t a lot. I’ll share more blogs like this in the future then.. :)
