Name: A Scent
Brand: Issey Miyake
Size: 30ml
Price: £30.64

What I liked:
- lovely green floral scent
- soft, classic and feminine blend
- not overpowering
- the packaging

What I didn’t like:
- not very original
- not very longlasting

A Scent by Issey Miyake may not be a very unique fragrance, but it surely is a breath of fresh air among the overly sweet floral and fruity perfumes so popular these days. Described as “a smell as simple and beautiful as the air we breathe”, it is supposed to make you feel like you’re in a natural place where there is lots of air and space such as a plain in Mongolia. Well, I don’t really know about that. Instead than Mongolia, or even Japan, the scent smells like a clear spring day that followed a stormy, rain night and you can still see the dew on top of the grass and breathe in its refreshing smell.

A Scent is a green floral blend that opens with light citrus notes with a hint of verbena but soon leaves central stage to Garbanum. Soft and grassy, this is a note that’s not very used these days so it was a very pleasant surprise to find it is so strong, but by no means overpowering, in this fragrance. Garbanum is mixed with a hint of Hyacinth, followed by Jasmine, both of which add a lovely floral touch to the composition. The drydown, which is airy and almost imperceptible, smells of white musk.

I’m not sure the scent is unique enough to ever become a classic, but it definitely is elegant and very wearable in any occasion. You can wear it during the day at the office or at night for a date, and in any season. Refreshing in the summer, in winter it will make you long for the spring to soon arrive. It’s also quite unisex so the men in your life could use it too.

The only downside is that it doesn’t last long. After 4 hours, it disappears and it’s time to apply it again. You could make it last up to 8 hours if you wanted but you’d have to apply a few generous spritzes. Like the name of the scent, simply called A Scent, the packaging too is very minimalistic. The bottle looks like it has just been cut out of a block of glass. It is pretty, sleek and perfectly capture the essence of the fragrance.

Available at: Boots.com and Amazon.com

Summary
A Scent by Issey Miyake is a subtle green floral scent that’s classic, refreshing and perfect for any occasion and season. It could be easily be worn by a man too. Although not very original, it’s different from most scents on the market which is something those tired of sweet floral and fruity fragrances will appreciate. However, it doesn’t last long.

I used to own their original Issey Miyake fragrance and I loved that one. I wonder how this one compares!
