- scent is too sweet for my taste
Ever since Maybelline announced they were coming out with a new sister brand called MNY, targeted mainly to teenagers with products that are available in lots of colorful, fun shades, an eye-catching packaging and very affordable prices, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Although Maybelline is a drugstore brand, here in Europe their products are ridiculously overpriced but the products in this line are all under €5,00 so everyone will be able to afford them. For now, though, the range is available only in a few European countries but I hope they will expand in the future.
A month ago, MNY had finally arrived at my local store and I purchased a few things straight away. Let’s start by talking about the My Tube Glosses. They are available in 20 shades, from the classic pinks, reds and neutrals to fun shades like green and blue, which I suspect will be very sheer. My counter doesn’t carry all the shades available so my choices were limited but eventually I picked up 295.
A bubblegum pink in the tube, 295 applies very sheer. It provides just the tiniest hint of pink. The finish is very shiny and the gloss is infused with glitters that make your pout shine even more but without going over-the-top. While the color disappears pretty soon, the shine and glitters hang around for a few good hours, making this a great gloss to use on top of lipsticks. But personally, I am disappointed by how sheer it is. I mean, what’s the point of it being available in 20 shades if the colors are so sheer that barely show up?
The consistency is thick but not sticky and feels comfortable on the lips. While not moisturizing, it doesn’t dry lips either. It smells very sweet (the scent is fruity with a hint of vanilla) but not overpowering. I’m not a fan of sweet scents though so I’m not too fond of it but it doesn’t linger around long so it’s not a problem for me. The taste is yummy though. I also like the packaging: it is a simple, clear plastic tube but the edgy design is very pretty.
Available at: European drugstores
Summary
MNY My Tube Gloss in 295 is a very sheer gloss with an ultra-shiny finish that lasts for hours. Its thick but not-sticky texture feels comfortably on the lips. The packaging is pretty, the scent sweet and the price very affordable. If you’re into sheer glosses, this is a great and cheap option to consider. But if like me you prefer pigmented glosses, this will disappoint you.

I usually like pigmented gloss, as you said what’s the point in making different colours if they all look alike? Maybe I’ll try the most crazy shades (blue and green, if I remember well) of this line.
La Bisbetica, I prefer pigmented glosses so I was disappointed to find this is soo sheer. I don’t think I’ll buy more of them although I too am curious to try the blue and green shades. My counter doesn’t have them yet though. I hope you’ll be able to find them.
Yay! Sweet scent.
That’s right up my alley. Plus, I like that it isn’t sticky.
Trisha, I knew you would have loved the sweet scent.
And it’s great that it isn’t sticky, I agree.
Super sheer glosses annoy me too. But I still love how sweet this looks on your lippies.
Brittany, thank you. I think it looks really nice when you first put it on but it’s a shame the color disappears so fast!
Isn’t it a shame that they don’t add lipsticks to their standard range? As for the tube lipgloss, I haver to say that it isn’t convincing but be happy that you haven’t wasted too much money. But I could imagine that it’s a nice addition to a matte lipstick if you ask me…
Mylanqolia, that’s a shame, indeed. The gloss is really nothing special on its own but considering the price, I guess one can’t complain too much. I haven’t tried it with a matte lipstick yet but now that you mention it I think it will work very well…
