Name: Intertubes in Over 9000
Brand: Shiro Cosmetics
Size: 5.5g
Price: $6.50

From Shiro Cosmetics’ website:
Color: Bold pink, a shade or two darker than bubblegum.
Opacity: May be applied moderately opaque or built up to complete opacity.

What I liked:
- pigmented
- doesn’t dry lips
- longlasting
- smells and tastes yummy
- the price

What I didn’t like:
- packaging is not very practical

Have you ever heard of Shiro Cosmetics? It’s an indie makeup company that stands out from the rest for its geeky-themed products. They started out with a Pokemon Themed Eyeshadow collection and later expanded their line to Intertubes, which are a lipstick, a gloss, a lip stain and a lip balm all rolled into one. The Intertubes are all inspired by internet memes, those concepts that spread via the internet and thus become popular. I think most of you, even those that have never watched Dragon Ball Z (I haven’t either), are familiar with the “It’s Over nine thousaaaaand!” meme. And Over 9000 is the name of the shade I bought.

Over 9000 is described as a bold pink, a shade or two darker than bubblegum and I completely agree. The color, which has a subtle glossy finish and a delicious grapefruit flavour, is very pigmented but buildable. One coat provides great color payoff without going over the top, making it suitable to be worn at the office too. And if you want a more intense, bold look, you can always apply a second layer, like I did in the swatch below.

I also find Over 9000 to be fairly moisturizing, but not as much as a lip balm. Still, it dosn’t dry lips and because it has a light texture that never feels heavy even if you apply two or more coats, it feels very comfortable on. But what really impressed me is how longlasting it is. It lasts the entire morning on my lips and, after I had lunch, some color (obviously faded) was still there!

The packaging is a simple oval plastic tube and each Intertube has a unique label. Over 9000 has a pink label with the image of a character similar to Dragon Ball ones. The packaging itself would be quite boring but I like the label, it’s really cool. The oval shape is unique too and it makes application easy but it can sometimes be difficult to twist the product down. Paris B doesn’t like it either.

The Intertubes are vegan and Over 9000 contains the following ingredients: shea butter, organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax, vitamin E, red #27, castor oil, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin oxide, grapefruit oil. You can purchase the full size for only $6,50 or you can try a sample (approx. 1.5 grams in clamshell) for $1.80. If you really love the Intertubes or want to try a few of them, you can even purchase 5 for $30 or the entire set (there are 10 in total) for $55!

Summary
Even though I would prefer Shiro Intertubes in Over 9000 to be packaged in a round tube, I love the product itself. It is very pigmented with a slight glossy finish and a creamy, lightweight texture that feels comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them. And it lasts for hours too! In addition, the flavour is delicious and the price very affordable.

I love Shiro, and I love this product. I agree about the packaging, but the colour and price are so great that I can overlook it!

I’ve heard a lot of nice things about this company. Looking at the tube packaging, it doesn’t seem that impressive, but the color is gorgeous on your lips! I can see why it’s so popular.

Makeup Morsels, they packaging is not impressive indeed but I like the labels. I think that’s a really lovely touch. And the product is so good and so pigmented that I don’t mind much. :)

intriguing! I love the idea of the samples; I shouldn’t be buying any more lip products, but at this price, it’s great fun and inexpensive.
Thanks for the review.

Kuri, you’re welcome. The Intertubes are amazing, pigmented and with a creamy texture. I’m glad that come in samples too so people can try them before committing to the full size and they are so inexpensive!
