Do you think lipliner is essential?
Beautiful with Brains says: I don’t think it is essential but it can be very useful. It can prevent lipsticks from bleeding and helps define the lips, especially when you are wearing dark or bold lip colors. I’m usually too lazy to use it though.

I don’t usually use lipliner because I don’t like spending the money to buy that color. I really like elf’s liplock pencil. It’s clear almost chapstick like thin you draw around your lips and keeps the lipstick in.
Alex, I don’t like spending money on lipliner either and that’s why I have only a couple that were very inexpensive. That ELF pencil sounds like a great alternative, I’ll put it in my to-buy list. Thanks for sharing.
I share your opinion. I don’t use lipliners very often, especially when I wear lipgloss. But I have to say that I love the tranparent lipliner. It’s really handy if a lipstick or lipgloss bleeds.
Mylanqolia, I never use a lipliner with lipgloss either. And I really need to try this transparent liner. I never bothered as I don’t use lip liners often but it sounds really handy.
I think is essential only to define lips when using bold lipsticks or waterproof lip colors. Otherwise I could apply lipstick directly from the tube without any problem. I am willing to try transparent lipliner anyway.

La Bisbetica, I agree with you. For bold lip colors, lipliner is a must. Otherwise, we can just apply it straight from the tube without problems.
I don’t think it’s essential unless the person have fine lines around the lips. I usually skip liner unless I’m using it as my lipstick.

Tammy, I hadn’t thought about that but it would be necessary indeed in that case.
LOL yup I’m too lazy to use it too. If I ever want a very precise line (especially if I’m wearing red lipstick), then I’ll use it, but otherwise it’s usually a step I skip!

Makeup Morsels, me too. I think it’s an optional step with most lip colors. If you reds, you need it though.
lipliner is definitely not an-everyday-item for me, only used it when i am going for a function where i’d need my lip color to stay on longer
Xin, that’s a great trick. It helps the lipstick to stay longer and when it fades, you still have the color of the liner showing.
Same! I only use them when I’m doing Book of Fables or photoshoots.

Celina, I love your Book of Fables looks! They are so beautiful and creative! And lipliner is certainly very helpful for photoshoots when you need to have defined lips that look great both in real life and in pictures.
I think the last time I bought and used lip liner was in the 90′s! I didn’t think it was in fashion anymore and I don’t see many blog posts about it.

Annabella, it doesn’t seem to be very popular these days. I rarely see posts about lip liners on beauty blogs, I guess it’s just not very used anymore..
I’m the same as you, I like lipliners, but I don’t use them very often!
