Name: Brilliant Due Top Coat
Brand: Layla
Size: 10ml
Price: €15.90

From Layla’s website:
Glass Effect. Its shine will not be effected by any alcoholic product, perfumes and hair sprays. Double the lasting and the shining of any type of nail polish.

What I liked:
- very shiny finish
- dries fast

What I didn’t like:
- thick consistency, hard to apply
- chips after only a couple of days
- hard to remove
- the price

As you know, I am a big fan of Layla products, so when I received their Brilliant Due, a top coat which promises to “double the lasting and the shining of any type of nail polish”, I had high expectations. And they were even higher when I realized how pricey this little bottle is. €15.90 (although some shops sell it at about €10.00) is very expensive for a top coat and to justify it, this stuff would have to be pretty amazing, right?

Well, the only amazing thing about it is its beautiful shiny finish. It gives nails a glass-like effect that enhances your favourite nail polishes and really doubles their shininess. Layla wasn’t kidding about that. It also dries pretty fast so you’ll have beautiful manicured nails in just 5 minutes or so.

However, application and lasting power are the main downsides of this top coat. It is very thick and dense, which means that it is very easy to apply a lot more than necessary, wasting product and making application difficult and streaky if you’re not careful. I became pretty frustrated while applying it but it was soon forgotten once I saw the beautiful final effect. Just a shame it didn’t last long.

Now this top coat is very hard to remove when you want to take it off. It took quite a lot of acetone, time and effort to get rid of it, so you would think that it really makes your nail polishes last for ages, right? It didn’t even survive intact for two days. Now, I’m pretty rough on my nails but no top coat had ever lasted that little on me.

The problem with this top coat is that it creates such a film on the nails that, when it chips just a little, it takes away with it a huge chunk of nail polish. I’m not sure how to explain it but suffice to say that a small crack can cause a lot of damage, completely ruining your manicure in just a few seconds. :(

Summary
Layla Brilliant Due Top Coat is a very shiny, with glass-like effect, top coat that dries in a few minutes. However, it has a dense consistency that makes application difficult and chips badly in just a couple of days. But, when you want to take it off, it won’t budge unless you have a strong, acetone based remover (and even then it takes a while!).

It’s so disappointing when top-coat doesn’t make the polish last longer.
Thanks for the review.

La Bisbetica, I agree. It’s kinda useless, isn’t it? I guess if you wanted to double the shine of your nail polish for a day, this’ll do it fine but it is so hard to remove I’m not sure it’s worth it.
