What it is
Cherry extract is an extract derived from cherries.
What it does
Cherries are rich in Vitamin C, polyphenols and anthocyanins, all of which have powerful antioxidant properties. And while cherries do provide antioxidant properties when ingested (not to mention how delicious they are!), it still isn’t clear if topical application on the skin has the same effect.
Cherry extract does add a lovely fragrance to cosmetic products though.
Side effects
Cherry extract is generally considered to be safe.

Trisha, me too. They smell (and taste) delicious!
I lovee L’occitane’s Cherry Blossom Perfume, have you smelled that before? Why can’t cherry candies ever taste like cherry extract. They always taste like medicine bleghh. p.s. Happy 2011!

Makeup morsels, not yet but I plan to.
I agree, cherry candies have an artificial, medical smell. I don’t really like it but the scent in most cosmetics is, thankfully, delicious.
Thanks and happy new year to you too!
I always find I prefer Cherries in my mouth rather than my skin anyway =)
