From Liz Earle’s website:
We only make one cleanser because this formulation is the ultimate in concentrated yet gentle cleansing power and works on every age and skin type. Our plant-based cleanser has a 2-phase action, phase 1 is the cleansing. Free from mineral oil, it has a rich and creamy texture and swiftly removes all traces of face and eye make-up, even stubborn mascara. Phase 2 is the polishing. Polish off the cream using the pure muslin cloth to help gently dislodge dead skin cells and help reveal clean, soft and radiant skin. Use morning and night with pure muslin cloths to reveal fresh, radiant skin.
What I liked:
- creamy texture, gentle on the skin
- removes dirt and makeup well
- leaves skin soft
- muslin cloths gently exfoliate skin
- doesn’t irritate skin
- the packaging
- available in different sizes at different prices
What I didn’t like:
- some people may be too lazy to use the muslin cloth
Cleansing skin is one of the most important steps in a skincare routine but, to tell you the truth, I’ve never come across a cleanser I was really impressed with. I’ve been trying lots of different ones during the years and they all (some better than others) removed dirt and makeup from my skin, but none left my skin as cleansed and soft as the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I’m hooked on this stuff and I’m definitely repurchasing when my tube runs out!
Let’s start with the packaging. It comes in a soft green, hygienic tube with a pump that releases just the right amount of product you need. And, if you purchase the starter kit (which I recommend unless you already have washclothes at home as you would need them with this cleanser), you also get two muslin cloths which are very soft and gentle on the skin. But how does it perform? On my combination skin (dry cheeks, oily t-zone and not break out prone), wonderfully.
The cleanser itself is white in color and has a thick, rich and creamy consistency. To use it, simply massage one pump of product on your skin, then dampen the washcloth and use it to wipe clean your face. Although I was a bit skeptical about its effect at first, it really removes all traces of dirt, makeup (even waterproof mascara!) and other impurities from your skin without irritating it. The washcloth also performs a gentle exfoliating action.
It is really amazing how such a gentle cleanser can remove everything so well! I’ve been using it for a month now, day and night, and my skin is brighter, smoother and so soft! Also, my combination skin tends to get quite dry in winter and some cleansers are too harsh and can aggravate the problem. But not the Hot Cloth Cleanser. It seems to have somewhat balanced my skin as it doesn’t really feel dry anymore, just healthy.
If I really have to find a con to this product, I’d say it’s simply the fact that some people will probably be too lazy to wash and dry the muslin cloth after every use (never use a cloth that’s not dry or it could harbour bacteria and cause infections). I have tried using the cleanser without the cloths a couple of times, just to see how it performs on its own and it still removes all dirt, makeup and everything else on my face leaving it feeling so soft, but my skin looked less bright than when I use the cloth. That’s probably because of the lack of exfoliation the cloths instead provide.
Another thing I really like about this cleanser (and Liz Earle products in general) is that they are available in several sizes. If you have never tried the cleanser, I recommend the 100ml starter kit which retails at £13.50 and comes with the two muslin cloths. But if you already have washcloths and don’t wanna pay for two more, then you can try the 30ml (£5.00) or 50 (£7.50) that comes without it. There is also a 100ml tube (£11.00) without the muslin cloths for those that, like me, have already tried it and want to repurchase it. Don’t you just love having so many options? More companies should follow their example, if you ask me.

Summary
I was really impressed by Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. This gentle cleanser, together with the two muslin cloths, remove all traces of makeup and other impurities from the skin, while also exfoliating it and leaving it clean, soft and bright! It doesn’t irritate neither the skin nor the eyes and is available in several sizes at different prices. However, some people may be too lazy to use the washcloth.

Makeup morsels, I’m sure you will. It really is a fab cleanser that removes everything yet it’s not too harsh on the skin and doesn’t dry it out.
This is an interesting product. Would love to try it, for sure!

Vonvon, do try it if you can. You’ll love it, I’m sure.
I wonder how much of it is in the cloth alone.
I mean: if we take some other cleanser (that performs well) and use it with a cloth, will it too have all the good effects/have the good effects of the cleanser we used + make the skin brighter?
And I wonder what the difference would be if one used just the cleanser vs. using both for a whole month (vs. a few days; new cells, yadda yadda).
I’ll be sure to get my hands on some anyway, since it seems everybody loves it

Ana, I was wondering the same thing when I first received the cleanser. All washcloths perform a gentle exfoliating action so it doesn’t matter what cleanser you use, if you remove it with a cloth then your skin is gonna be brighter. And the cloth will also help in removing makeup.
However, what sets this cleanser apart from the rest, at least for me, is how soft it leaves my skin. I tried lots of different cleansers in the past and they either were too gentle and didn’t remove everything or they removed everything but were too harsh and left my skin feeling tight and uncomfortable because together with the makeup and dirt, they had also stripped too much natural oil. This cleanser instead leaves skin very soft and I think this is part of the reason why my skin looks better as it removes the dirt but not the oils that keep it natually moisturized.
I’m not sure how well it’ll perform on its own. My guess that skin will look healthy and feel soft but obviously not brighter as you’re not exfoliating. They have a small 30ml tube for only £5.00 that doesn’t come with the muslim cloths so if you’re curious to see how it performs on its own you can opt for that one and, if you like the result, you can always purchase the starter kit (which comes with the cloths) later on.
