Food-scented beauty products: Yay or nay?

Beautiful with brains says: while I prefer fragrance-free products, I actually like food-scented ones, especially if they smell like cherry or citrus fruits. Sooo yummy! It’s only when the scent is too sweet and overpowering that I dislike it. Oh, and I hate apple scents in beauty products, which is weird because I like apples and the way they smell, but just not on my skin lol.

I usually prefer unscented products but fruit scented products is alright as long as the smell is not over-powering. But i have a special love for mango-scented products, as I love mangoes.

Shusheshe, mango smells wondefully! I agree with you, I prefer products to be unscented but if they have to have a fragrance, then it’d better not to too strong or it just puts me off.

Vonvon, when it comes to food scents then I love fruity ones too. Chocolate, cookies scents can smell lovely too as long as they’re neither too strong nor too sweet.

A definite yay. Anything that smells like dessert gets a thumbs up. Especially vanilla or coconut. Or cherry, or almond, or green apple. Pretty much anything sweet.

Hmm! I’m the same, I prefer scent-free products, I’m okay if they are food-scented so long as it’s very subtle! Not a fan of anything too overpowering~

Celine, I agree. Scents should be subtle or they can be very offputting. Although fragrance-free is always better. :)

I’m in the same boat as you. I hate it when products have overly synthetic food scents, those just make me want to gag! But food scents done right can smell so yummy.

Makeup morsels, I agree, synthetic food scents are awful! But if you manage to make them right, which is not an easy task, they smell delicious!

Fabulessbeauty, I agree that some scents are really disgusting. There should be more fragrance-free products around.

I like vanilla, coconut, apple, strawberry, and sweet cupcake scented products. Like you, I don’t like strongly scented products either.

Paris, I prefer scents on my body too. The skin on the face is more delicate so fragrance-free products are better for it imo. :)

I normally don’t like scented products unless it smells fresh and light. But that changed when I used the My Beauty Diary mask in Chocolate. Oh my… It smelt so tasty! lol

It really depends on what kind of food it smells like. I love citrus and chocolate smells, but sometimes vanilla and coconut can be too cloying for me.

Tammy, I agree with you. I tried some vanilla scents that were too strong or sweet or both and they didn’t smell good at all. But when they are done right, they smell really delicious.

Yes, please.
Body lotions and potions? Yes, yes, yes!
Face products? Not so much, but, incidentally, I love the one that you have on your picture – the Garnier toner for normal and combination skin.

I like edible scents in general – the warmer ones: coconut, almond, cinnamon, and the citrusy ones (not necessarily citruses themselves, my brain groups them together based on… something :D ): oranges, mangoes, passionfruit, raspberries, cherries, peaches, ginger.

The strange thing is: I even like cucumber-scented cosmetics, and I hate them and their scent when they’re on my table.
And also the scented cosmetics is how I got into raspberries (Palmolive shower gel) after hating them for the first 15 years of my life (that and, later on, Nutella, raspberry and milled Plazma cookies pancakes, yum!). I love them everywhere now.

Not that keen on apples, even though they are my favourite fruit, honey, milk and overly sweet vanilla.

beautifulwithbrains December 14, 2010 at 10:16 pm

Ana lol. You know, I’ve used that Garnier toner and couldn’t stand the smell lol. But I’m glad you like it. :) But I don’t like apple scents either even though I like apples and I love anything citrus. :)
