What it is
Methicone is a silicone that has a simple molecule structure.

What it does
Methicone forms a protective barrier on the skin that slows down water loss, keeping skin hydrated.
It also works as a surface modifier. That means that Methicone can be added to other cosmetic ingredients in order to make them either repel or attract water.

Side effects
As it is an occlusive agent, Methicone could potentially cause breakouts in those with very sensitive or acne-prone skin.
