Product Review: Esprit Moisturizing Color Lipstick in Tonic Pink

Name: Moisturizing Color Lipstick in Tonic Pink
Brand: Esprit
Price: €8,95

From Esprit’s website:
Intense colors. Increases lip moisture, reduces visible chapped lips.

What I liked:
– available in lots of shades
– pigmented
– colors looks scary in the tube but toned down on the lips
– applies smoothly, doesn’t set in fine lines
– pretty packaging
– the price

What I didn’t like:
– texture is not very creamy
– not very moisturizing

Last August, my boyfriend went to German and while he was there he decided to get some cosmetics for me as a birthday present. He had a hard time finding a store that sells makeup and eventually came across a drugstore at the train station where he purchased a few things.

So, among other things I’ll be reviewing soon, I got Esprit Moisturizing Color Lipstick inTonic Pink, one of the 25 shades available. Tonic Pink is a bright fuchsia with blue undertones that looks very scary in the tube but on the lips, it is another story. Although it gives an opaque coverage with only one swipe, it doesn’t pack on too much color, making the shade wearable.

I actually liked that on the lips it isn’t as bold as it looks in the tube because that means that I can wear it for almost every occasion and it’s perfect for those that want to experiment with colors but are afraid of them. Of course, you can easily build up the color if you want a more intense and bold look.

The texture is not very creamy, but it still applies smoothly without setting into fine lines, smudging or bleeding. It didn’t dry out my lips but it isn’t very moisturizing either. I was expecting more from a lipstick called “Moisturizing”, but considering this is a drugstore item I can’t really complain too much about it, especially when the problem is easily fixed by using a lip balm underneath.

And what about the staying power? It lasts about 2 hours on me if I don’t eat, drink or kiss, which is aveage for a lipstick. Just be prepared to have to reapply it a couple of times during the day. Instead, I really like the packaging: it’s black, sleek and pretty.

Available at: Esprit counters

Although Esprit Moisturizing Color Lipstick in Tonic Pink looks very bright and scary in the tube, once applied it’s toned down and wearable. The color is pigmented and applies smoothly even though the texture is not very creamy and moisturizing. Staying power is average for a lip product.

Rating: 3.5/5

Vonvon, I agree about the packaging, it could easily make it pass for an expensive lippie. And I was surprised about the shade, I thought it’d be scary but it’s beautiful and wearable.

Vonnie, I was disappointed about that. I expected something more moisturizing considering the name. But oh well, at least it can easily be fixed by using lip balm.

Ooops, your boy friend has bought something of the most disappointing drugstore brand at dm. Well, he’s male. Let’s forgive him. 😉 Hmm, I hate Esprit cosmetics. Their stuff is miserable and over-priced (the e/s are worse than those of Essence). I hope that he didn’t buy too many items from Esprit. *keep my fingers crossed*

Mylanqolia, I think I got 3 stuff or so from Esprit. Yeah, men can’t choose. He just picked whatver colors tickled its fancy without knowing what they were or anything about the brands. lol I didn’t think they were so bad though, just typical drugstore products where you get what you paid for really. Or maybe I think so because I’m used to Italian drugstore brands who make crap products but the prices are higher (although they’ve improved quite a big lately as well). Of course, I just tried 3 things so I can’t really form an opinion of the brand yet, maybe I got the best of the worst lol?

*giggle* Yep, it seems to be so. The e/s are worse. :-) Well, yes, Esprit is a fashion brand and to be honest, their clothes have a better quality than the cosmetic products. Nevertheless, I don’t buy their clothes anymore since there’s H&M or TK Maxx. :-)
Has your b-friend also bought the Manhattan e/s in Metal Green? It was a good choice, to be honest.

Mylanqolia, I’m not familiar with their clothes either. I thought their lipstick was ok for the price and I really like their nail polishes. The one I have is pigmented, has a lovely formula and a huge brush that makes application really easy. It needs a good top coat to last long though. But I also got to try a quad and I wasn’t too impressed. The colors looked pretty in the pan so I can’t blame my boyfriend for getting it, but once swatched they were very sheer. They’re not that good I agree, although I hope Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy will fix them. :)

And yes, he bought me the Manhattan eyeshadow as well, love it. It’s such a pretty color and a good choice, I agree. He also bought me some Essence liners which I adore. I would probably have bought them myself if he hadn’t picked them up for me. :)

I adore Esprit! I didn’t know they sold lipsticks. Where can I buy them? I can’t find an Esprit counter.

Elma, unfortunately I believe Esprit makeup is available only in Germany, and a few other European countries. Their products are very hit and miss though.
