Name: Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H in Intense Black
Brand: Maybelline
Size: 0.11oz
Price: €12,00

From Maybelline’s website:
Only our oil-free formula can hold highly concentrated pigments in a clear gel base. So color is more intense and lines resist wear for 24 hours. Smudge-proof and Water-proof. The most intense line for lasting drama.

What I liked:
- pigmented
- creamy texture
- easy to apply without tugging
- dries fast
- longlasting
- cute jar packaging
- comes with a brush

What I didn’t like:
- smudges a bit
- the price

I’ve been lemming Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H in Black for ages and last summer it was finally released here in Italy! Yay! Obviously I rushed to the shop to get mine and although at the time only the black shade was available (now the blue and brown ones are in the shops too), I was delighted about the launch price: only 7 euros. A few months later, it increased to €12,00 which I think it’s too much for a drugstore liner, but at least the product’s awesome.

But let’s start with the packaging. Drugstore makeup packaging can look very tacky, but this eyeliner comes in a small circular glass frosted jar which not only looks pretty and sleek but also prevents the formula from drying out. I’ve been using this regularly since August and the formula is still creamy and easy to work with. Just remember to close the lid carefully though!

In addition, inside the box (which I threw away as soon as I got home), there is also a small eyeliner brush. The brush has stiff and tapered bristles that don’t scratch skin and are still in great condition even after being washed regularly. I wouldn’t say it is the best eyeliner brush out there, but it does its job well. I think including a brush with this eyeliner was a really nice touch as even those young girls that have just started using makeup and haven’t invested in a good eyeliner brush yet will be able to use this gel eyeliner.

Now, the formula. It is soft, creamy and glides on easily without tugging. Color payoff is great and I only need one layer to achieve a black opaque line. It takes a few seconds to dry so if you’re quick you can even smudge it for smokier looks. I also find it to be longlasting but sadly not smudge-proof.

My lids are slightly oily and, after about 8 hours of wear, it smudges just a little bit on the outer corner of my eyes. It’s nothing major and it doesn’t give me panda eyes or anything like that, but it’s something to consider if you have oily lids. In that case, I highly recommend you wear a good primer underneath to make it stay put.

Available at: Ulta.com, Drugstore.com and Amazon.com

Summary
Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H in Black is pigmented and has a creamy texture that dries fast. It lasts a good 8 hours on me before it starts smudging but only minimally. In addition, the packaging is cute and it comes with its own brush, which is actually useful.

Stavroula, you’re welcome. I agree, 12 euros is too much for a drugstore eyeliner and Maybelline is becoming quite expensive lately. I was happy I only paid 7 euros for it, I’m not sure I would have bought if it cost € 12. Thank goodness for ebay!

Trisha, I used to be scared of gel liners cos I thought they would be easier to apply and dry out soon, but after a few months, the formula is still creamy and application is easy. Plus, the brush is actually decent.

Looks like a great product, but €12,00 is just ridiculous. Why do American drugstore brands cost so much overseas? I don’t think it’s fair.

Tammy, I agree, it’s so unfair that drugstore brands cost so much here. These days I do most of my shopping online cos even if you pay for shipping, you still save a lot of money.

I’ve always wanted to try this, but I was hesitant since I thought the consistency wouldn’t be too good. But by the looks of your review, it looks like its well worth the purchase!

Dee, the consistency isn’t as good as that of MAC gel liners but it’s still quite creamy and easy to spread. And it’s doesn’t dry out soon which is always a big plus. For the price, this is really worth it imo. :)

Thanks for this! There’s so many gel liners in stores now, it’s hard to choose one!

Fabuless Beauty, I know! But I’m glad that there finally cheaper gel liners alternatives now. :)
