Who taught you how to apply makeup?
Beautiful with brains says: my mum and my friends were never into makeup so I had to learn on my own, with the help of teen mags. But my makeup skills improved a lot and I became more adventurous after discovering beauty blogs and youtube.

Stavroula, my mum’s never been into makeup, then last year she decided to start wearing foundation and lipstick and I had to teach her how to do it lol. She won’t touch anything else though. lol.
Magazines!!!! Then I practiced on friends!

Nikki, that sounds like fun!
We have the same answer, Gio! Even though my mom sold makeup sometimes, she never really wore much of it, nor did she show me how to use it. I just had to figure it out myself.

Trisha, it seems like quite a few of us had to figure out this makeup stuff on our own. I sometimes wish my mum had been into makeup, it would have been fun and probably easier to learn from her.
I used to watch my mom do hers when she was getting ready to go out, but she doesn`t use a lot. When I was 12 or 13, my birthday gift was a manicure and make-up lesson at a spa so I learned the basics of application. Mostly I just taught myself for eye shadow because I liked to break the rules with it.

Michelle, what a great birthday gift! You must have loved getting pampered and learning a few things about makeup too.
Many people have contributed to my makeup knowledge over the years and I’ve very thankful though I can’t pin point one person who actually taught me. I’ve learned everything I know through input from others, observation and loads of practice. All the lovely people who do tutorials online play a HUGE part, definitely!

Connie, you must have learned lots of tips and tricks and lots of different styles from so many different sources. Your skills are awesome!
Myself, through trial and error. And of course, watching makeup artists doing makeover for me, asking them lots and lots of questions, reading some beauty blogs, observation and analysis – for eg: when I look at a photo of model, I will look closely at how her eye makeup is done, etc etc…then try to reproduce the look(s) on myself.

Vonvon, I do try to reproduce model’s makeup too eheh. It must be wonderful to have a makeup artist do a makeover on you and sharing tips. You must learn a lot from them. I wish this practice was more popular in Italy.
definitely learned the most off of blogs and youtube, like you. I watched a lot of xteeener and read a lot of mbb when I was starting out

makeup morsels, youtube and blogs are so useful! I like mags for starting out but they seem to cover mostly basic techniques and wearable looks, while blogs and youtube videos experiment more while sharing a few useful tips and tricks in the process.
One of my aunts taught me the importance of skin care while YouTube taught me how to do the smokey eye without looking like a panda. It’s amazing how technology has improved the makeup application skills of so many.
Great post per usual, Gio!!

Mary, I agree. Thanks to technology people now have access to more resources. You can watch lots of different people apply makeup and everyone has their own style and way of doing it so you learn a lot more imo.
Thanks.

Marguerite, anch’io all’inizio pasticciavo parecchio e i risultati erano abbastanza deludenti lol. Trovo che youtube e i blog siano delle grandi fonti di ispirazione. Anche a me piace ricreare i look, ma personalizzandoli un pò con colori che mi si adattano di più per esempio.
YouTube videos and beauty blogs!
Fabulessbeauty, these are great resources, aren’t they?
I learned makeup application from my Thai dance teachers and teen beauty magazines. I keep learning more through blogs an YouTube. My mom doesn’t wear much makeup either, but she taught me the basics of skin care.

Tammy, it seems like most of us have learned makeup basics from teen beauty mags. They’re a great resources although teens these days are so lucky to have youtube and blogs.
My mum never wore anything other than a ‘nude’ lipstick – when I was a teenager I got a book from Cosmopolitan – called something like Young Person’s Guide to Beauty and Health – it had all sorts of things for teenagers, and I LOVED it! Took it to uni and probably read it at least as much as my textbooks, lolol! Now I pick up tips from beauty blogs mostly.
Viv, I had some guides like that I got from some Italian mags and I loved it. They had so many useful tips and tricks!
it same goes to me.i learn makeup from youtube and beautyblogs….
Fane, they’re the best resources, aren’t they? Great tips and easy to follow tutorials.
ya…they are the best for a new beginner like me.and i looking forward for more tips and tutorials from your lovely blog….love ya!
Fane, aww thank you! You’re too nice!
