What it is
Calendula Officinalis Extract is an extract derived from the calendula plant, also called pot marigold. This plant contains flavonoids, triterpene saponins, flavonoids and carotenoids, which are what give its petals their yellow and orange colors.

What it does
Calendula Officinalis Extract has antioxidants and antibacterial properties. In addition, it hydrates skin, making it look supple while reducing flaking.
It is also used as a fragrance ingredient to impart a certain odour to cosmetics.
A number of animal studies show that Calendula Officianalis Extract has anti-inflammatory properties as well. However, there are no studies done on humans so we don’t know if Calendula helps reduce inflammation when topically applied on skin.

Side effects
If you’re allergic to Calendula, daisies or any plant in the Aster/Compositae family, you should avoid this ingredient or an allergic reaction may occur.
