Name: Liquid Lip Liner And Lipstick
Brand: Layla
Size: 2.8ml
Price: €10,70

From Layla’s website:
Liquid Lip Liner & Lipstick defines lips in an elegant and perfect way without smudging, dries in a few seconds.

What I liked:
- pretty and versatile shades
- define lips well
- thin applicator allows precise application
- dries very quickly
- this comes in a liquid form, so unlike pencils, it doesn’t need sharpening
- longlasting

What I didn’t like:
- formula isn’t very moisturizing
- if applied all over lips, you need to be quick or application can be patchy

If you want perfectly defined lips, but don’t like to use lip liner pencils, Layla Cosmetics offers a handy alternative: a liquid liner. I had never tried liquid lip liners before, so when I received some from Layla, I was very intrigued and curious to see how they perform straight away. I really like the concept and the product is not bad at all either!

Available in 11 shades, I got two of them. N.01 is an antique pink shade with some subtle lilac undertones. The color is just slightly darker than my lips and for me, it’s one of those my-lips-but-better shades. N.08 is a soft beige, flesh-toned shade. Both are very subtle and natural shades but with enough color payoff to offer an opaque coverage.

Because the colors are so natural and basic, they are also very versatile and will work well with a wide variety of lipstick shades and are easily applied with the stiff and fine pointed tip applicator. Because of its shape, the applicator does a great job at drawing a thin line on the borders of your lips to define them in a few seconds. If instead you wanna use it as a lipstick, it’ll take a bit more work.

Personally, I much prefer to use them as lip liners than lipsticks though because the formula isn’t very moisturizing and if your lips are dry, this will feel drying too. Of course, that’s easily fixed by applied a layer of lip balm underneath or one of a moisturizing lipstick on top. Also, the formula dries very quickly and while this is a huge plus when used to define the lips, if you use it all over, you have to be very quick or application can get patchy. Actually, that’s a problem I’ve had only with N.08. N.01 always applies like a dream.

The staying power is impressive for a lip product as it lasts pretty much about 4 hours on me before fading. Considering, most lip product only last half as much, I was very pleased with it even though reapplication throughout the day is necessary. Also, this doesn’t survive a meal so be ready to retouch if you eat as well.

Summary
Overall, I love the concept of a liquid lip liner. It comes with a pointed tip applicator that makes application quick, easy and precise. As a lip liner, it defines lips perfectly and can be used with a wide range of lipstick shades thanks to its basic and natural colors. It offers good color payoff, dries quickly and lasts long, but if used as a lipstick, application can be patchy and lips may feel dry. This is easily fixed with a lip balm though.

Rating: as a lip liner 4/5, as a lipstick 3.5/5

Olivia, that’s a shame. I was surprised it lasted so long on me but I guess everyone’s different. And I agree, the colors are very pretty and versatile.

I’ve never even considered lip liner in liquid form before. I guess it defeats the purpose if it isn’t long-lasting.

Trisha, before Layla sent me these, I hadn’t considered them either but I have to say I really like them. Personally, I didn’t find them less long lasting than most lip liners pencils I tried, but I would have loved if they lasted a bit longer. Still, I think it is a lovely product.

Liquid lip liner and lipstick in liquid eye liner packaging, what a cool concept! I’d give them a try if they sold in the US. Too bad about them not being so moisturizing though.

Tammy, I agree, the concept is really cool! Layla has come out with a really nice product as it’s a shame their stuff is not easily available worldwide. I wish they were more moisturizing too but at least that’s easily fixed with a lip balm. :)
