Are you still looking for your perfect tinted moisturizer? They are great for those that only want minimal coverage and, in the summer, they allow you to even out your skintone without having to worry about your makeup fading because of the heat. And they keep your skin moisturized too! But the search for a good one isn’t easy. They can be too heavy, or too light, or the shade may not match you perfectly. Well, there’s no need to spend lots of time and money looking for the best one for you. Simply use the products you already have in your makeup stash and create it yourself (this is also a great way to put to good use those foundations you bought but realized they aren’t the perfect match for you). Here’s how:
Mix your own tinted moisturizer
Making your own tinted moisturizer is easy. All you need is your everyday moisturizing lotion or cream and your liquid foundation. If you don’t wanna get your hands too dirty or want to make enough tinted moisturizer to last you for a few days, you will also need a small jar or container (those mineral makeup sample jars are perfect for this). Once you’ve gathered everything, simply mix your lotion with your foundation until you get a shade that matches you perfectly. If the color is still too light for you, simply add more foundation. If, on the other hand, the shade has turned out too dark, add more lotion to sheer it out. Once you get the perfect match, simply apply it on your skin and voilĂ . Your homemade tinted moisturizer will give you a light coverage while keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized.
I use loose mineral foundation. Can I use that to create my tinted moisturizer?
Of course you can.mix Mineral foundations work just as well as liquid foundations at creating your own tinted moisturizer and the process is the same too, but to make it less messy I strongly advise you to use a small spatula to pick up the powder. Pour some of your moisturizer on your hand or in a jar and add a little bit of mineral foundation at a time until you get the desired shade. If you wanna travel with your mineral foundation but avoid the mess that comes with it (mineral makeup isn’t exactly travel-friendly), mixing it with some lotion to create your tinted moisturizer and storing it in a jar is a great and handy way to take it with you everywhere you go.

Oh I have tried this. I mixed Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation with my regular moisturiser. But in my case, it didn’t work. The resulting mixture was very thick for some reason. Even thicker than the foundation or moisturiser by itself. Luckily I made only enough for 2 applications so I was able to use it up. I am not sure why it happened, maybe 2 just didn’t get along.

Tanveer, that’s too bad. I never experienced anything like that and I’m sorry it happened to you. Maybe both products just had too heavy and thick textures that didn’t work well together?
I do this just about every morning, never thought to make enough to last a few applications. I just add half moisturizer and half liquid foundation… then apply a little foundation with my ring finger around my nose and under eye.
What ratio do you use?

Vanessa, I like to make enough to make a few application which saves me both time and getting my hands dirty everytime. Usually, the amount of foundation I use is half that of the moisturizer and then add as needed to adjust the shade. Most foundations I buy are too dark for my pale skin (haven’t found a foundation pale enough for me yet) so this is the best ratio for me.
Great tips! I never thought I could make tinted moisturizer out of my loose mineral makeup. Must try!

Tammy, I found that out only recently too and loved it. Plus it’s a great way to travel with mineral makeup without making a mess.
If your moisturizer don’t have spf, then add a little of sunblock. Now you have tinted moisturizer with spf.
Janie, thanks for the tip.
Amazing tip!!!!

Stavroula, let me know how it goes, I’m sure you’ll love it.
Sure!!
Revlon Colorstay is quite thick, so mixing it with moisturizer would be great!
